The deerstalker WAS actually a helmet! I'd forgotten about those things. They had a bowler hat one, too.

My very first 'proper' bike, I got with it a genuine "Corker Skid Lid", like the white thing the chick is wearing. My mother nagged me non stop to wear it. "But Muuuuum, it's totally DORKY. None of the guys wear them".

I had a white pudding basin like Stirling Moss wore, but no amount of nagging from my mother would make me wear it.I came off enough times without a helmet to not be concerned about wearing one.

    150mph....241kph - that's not a helmet Rollie Free is wearing,it's a bathing cap.Speed doesn't kill.

I had a big clean-out of old bike stuff on Trademe about 4 years ago when I purchased a new bike replacing a 1982 model I'd had from new. Consequently it was all period correct around late 70's early 80's. Tank bags, saddle bags etc that did not fit the new ride. Drifter brand if I remember - made in NZ too! Some Graheme Crosby signature boots and the like.

I was pleasantly surprised at the interest and prices and the were all individually purchased by riders of older bikes.

Genuine MOT boots and gauntlet gloves used to be pretty hot property back in the day. I had a set of steel caps with the steel caps on the outside and a Lewis Leathers jacket and a Star open face helmet that I was proud of.
Don't blame me, I voted Green.

So why do the ATGATTers maintain that looking at a bike without ATGATT will cause all your cells to go into apoptosis (die)?
Were the roads made of marshmellow in the Ordovician period?
(The picture above was obviously taken in the Ordovician, prior to life coming out of the seas onto land)
