They class them as diesels. Strictly, diesel is "non petrol driven". Though the Greens want a special category for electric vehicles, I think.
,br/> Certainly, ACC is "petrol driven" and "non petrol driven". Since ACC is by far the greatest part of the rego fee, that's what matters.

They can't be classed as mopeds, because mopeds are determined by power output (< 2KW I think) not cc. Assuming it was > 2 KW of course. I've no idea where they'd put them by cc class.

Usually a "600" will be a couple of cc less than 600cc . Like, 598 maybe. So, less than 600 cc. A 636 Kawasaki though, is > 600cc. Don't mention rebores or big bore kits. EDIT: R6 is actually 599cc. Phew. That's cold, mind you, barrels probably expand 1 cc when hot.

So good luck selling a 636, 650 or 675. Is anyone actually doing anything about this silly system? Surely the owners aren't going to be all that pleased that they have to pay more for a slower bike than some of the 600s!

Has anyone got a link to how much the new prices are? (NZTA website or similar?)

    Yep.

Which is a shame, cos I enjoy the occasional ride on a crisp (but fine) winter's morning.

Not worth keeping the bike licenced for those three months now.

my thoughts exactly. wouldnt a 700cc and bigger e the way to go? the prices of 650 bandits, daytonas and ninjas are going to see a pretty big price drop... right?!

So has anyone got a direct link to the NZTA website which shows all the new motorcycle licensing charges or are you more interested in bleating on about some supposed rego hike?

As far as I can tell, no prices have been increased dramatically as proposed, and my understanding was they'd be increased on the 1st June 2010.

I used google's advanced search to search the whole NZTA website for "CC" and the only reference to CC I could find was the learner size restriction.

I will retract these statements when I am shown the proper pricing with proof that it is going to / has happened.

I'll be on hold for 4 months/year. No more May to August. Will take the risk without rego on these "low K" months for me.
So that makes my rego only $344.
Shaken, not stirred in the shakey city!
