    Demerit checks.

Woohoo, the last of my demerits expired today, so now back on zero...... Was running on 95 for last 6 months, and very relieved that the 2 year duration limit is now concluded.
Hopefully I won't clock up any more for a while.

I highly recommend checking your status if you don't know, it's as easy as calling 0800 822 422.

Who else out there is running on a thin wire like I was, It's a horrible feeling being so close to the limit. Every time a popo pulls you over your as nervous as hell, and hoping like heck he don't ping you for anything.......
I am freindly really, I only bite when provoked

    iam on 100!

most of it incurred in 2008 before getting my full 3 months ago...

2x L plate not displayed (when on GSF400)
    1x1000cc while on restricted
    1x61kmk/h in cage

NZTA agent was knocking on my door few times last month to serve me with disqualification i assume...but unfortunately i wasnt at home any of those times

Getting all my "L plate" points back in august...but not sure how that works once the disqualification is "in motion"...

either way going to europe for couple of months in aug-sep so will probably "hand myself in" since i wont need licence then, so i have clean slate for summer

Is there ever a time where they will put you in jail for losing your licence too much?

Only just found out myself that you could do this. Was great when shopping around for insurnace because I had a print out I could flick off to them to prove my driving history from the last 7 years.

    Very handy service.

For the record Qkkid was in my bed, not the other way round

you need to be ticket free for 2 years for them to expire. if you have 50 demerits from 18 months ago, and get another 30 today, you have 80 demerits from today, which expire in 2 years.

Cancellation and reinstatement of demerit points

    • (1) When 2 years have elapsed since the commission of an offence in respect of which demerit points were recorded, the entry of the points made in respect of that offence ceases to have effect in relation to the person who committed that offence; but if demerit points were recorded in respect of 2 or more offences committed by that person, the entry ceases to have effect when 2 years have elapsed since the commission of the most recent of those offences

wrong! there has been billion discussions about this...each individual event expires each 2 years, points dont reset back to start of 2 years for any other offence.

Also i spoke with them on the phone and they told me when i get what amount of points back...so 35 in august and some more in october, and definately had that 61km/h ticket and other ones some time before calling them..but matter of months not 2 years.

IF what you are saying would be truth i would have lost my licence many many times before just based on demerits....

you need to ring driver licensing, number in first post. I had 70, then got 50, no fine line for me, but 3 months later I had none each set of points has a lifetime of 2 years.

I was only cutting and pasting legislation. I read it as 2 years clear. But what do I know - I've got no demerits so it's not really an issue for me - and I don't really care about your licence status.

I agree with your reading of the legislation, but for unknown reasons LTSA as was never applied it that way. And I guess no-one was ever silly enough to ask why.
