mmm Got the anti-fog helmet insert

Ordered from Mt Eden for my HJC CL-14, got it yesterday, naturally had to test it straight away so I was forced to go for a ride out through beachlands, clevedon, twilight road etc.

Then this morning, got to test it in fog. Didn't seem to do that well, but I think it was water droplets, not breath. In that case, it is really awesome. Much bigger than what I saw on other helmets, but I reckon, with my sunnies, it gives me an a-la Stars Wars bad fighter pilot look... only problem is that now when kids smile at you, you have to remember smiling is pointless.

I think the insert might be a little skew, but I'll eventually iron that out. Only problem is that the sunnies don't actually sit on my nose. But boy do you feel enclosed nice and safe within the helmet now.

And ignore the bugs all over the helmet, they wanted to be in the picture... Over all, for $17 bloody good...

Hey if you still have problems with fogging you can get a fog city insert, works brilliant.
Life is difficult because it is non-linear.

I have the Shoei equivalent, It helps but is not as effective as the 'Fogcity' visor insert.

too afraid of the stickiness of it/trying to fit it and bugger it up.

When I was at Motomail, the guy reckoned that the spray (which I then bought) was better than the fog city thingie. Yet everybody swears by them...

Must remember to try the spray sometime and see if it works.

This mornings fogging was due to the water droplets on the outside of the visor. My CL14's came with a breath guard and also with the fog city visor insert. The breath guard makes me feel claustrophobic but I don't seem to need it with the visor insert.

My Shoei works well with the insert on the visor.
But I miss my little wiper that fits on my left index finger (over the glove). For wiping off the water on the outside. The last one ripped and I can't find a replacement.

Anyone know where there are some available?

I've got one of those fitted to my helmet and it doesn't do shit.
My tinted visor has a fog city and my clear visor doesn't, even in the day i can't fully close my clear visor. If its a rainy morning though i can see the fog around the outside of the fog city.

Hi Will, I bought two of them rubber finger wipers off Red Baron last August. They had to source them from another supplier but it only took a couple of days. Give them a call, ask for the Parts Dept, and tell them that someone you know got some off them last year! Around $10 each if I recall correctly?

Yeah I rode through the fog down at mission bay tonght.. jeeesus that sucked. I had to ride with the visor full open at some stages. (god damn seagulls better not try anything again ). Even the wing mirrors didn't work (probably need a good wipe down).

I have a CL-14 too... $17 aint much, I might go get one so I stop doing 'Darth Vader' breathing through the bottom of the helmet

I rode through fog yesterday and today. Just open the visor. what's the problem with that? With the visor open you can see much better than in a cage. and if the mirrors don't work, swivel your head.

Nononono... with the visor open more than usual it still fogged up.. the fog/temperature TONIGHT at about 9:30 or so were perfect for condensing things. Wet bike/road/things everything was covered in moisture with not a drop of rain. And as for the mirrors, I managed to clean them up but had to quite frequently. I always use my head anyway and have the visor open a tad normally. :P

The reason I dont ride with the visor open (as in nothing covereing your face, which is what I meant by the last post, sorry) except for emergency situations is quite obvious :P

Well so what if it fogged up? If it's open your not looking through it.

I don't see that the reason for not riding with visor open is obvious.

I usually ride visor open around town. And rode for about twenty years before visors were invented.

Lots of riders still wear open face helmets. No visor (I don't want to get into another argument about open versus full face - just pointing out that visors aren't essential wear)

I usually have it semi open eg 50mm or so just to keep circulation going and to stop fogging, but tonight I was riding around with it fully open for a while as there was THAT DARN MUCH fog/condensation and it would not clear up no matter what.

And I can see where you are coming from with the whole open face thing... my 'keep the lid down not up' thing was reinforced when a seagull got me on the visor.. bastard. Its in the bugjuice more like birdjuice thread :P great pic and all.

Mt Eden had to order it in for me, so expect a day, unless you order in the morning. $16.35 to be exact.

The problem with fog is that it doesn't just clear, I tried for about 20 min full open. Then I got to my destination. But Auckland gets very little fog, so getting a wiper I reckon isn't necessary.

The breath guard actually holds a bit of heat in, and the sunnies stop the wind getting into the eyes. Only problem with the breath guard is that when your nose is dribbling because of the cold, it is extremely difficult to reach it now...

It is a little restricting, but I have found I got used to it quickly. Stops that little bit of mist on the screen when at traffic lights.
