Classic run in Christchurch

Thinking about posting up a classic MC run in Christchurch. Is anybody interested?

Regular say monthly or weekly. Fine weather run. Going some where nice for a beer, coffee, and lunch. No bike too old or slow, but not really thinking about a moped run unless there is interest. Not exclusively limited to old bikes but as mine can only do 80kph I would like to keep off the highway system.

What do you think and is there any interest?

Modern copies of old classics OK? I'm over head down, arse up, break neck speeds, so I'd be happy to pootle along. Monthly would suit me.

If that's the rules I could be keen, I think I can manage about 65ish on the scoot .

Note to self: Get arse out to garage and replace head gasket and fix exhaust and petrol leaks on scooter

How about making a sunday monthly historic connection classic run on the first Sunday of the month.........

I was thinking about, but not limited to:

1, Summit road, being a historic road that was made by hand by out of work people during the depression, ending up at the Godley point ww2 gun emplacements (bring a torch).

2, Out to Okains bay on as many of the back roads as possible for a visit at the Okains museum.

3, Trip around Christchurch ending up at Wigram museum.

4, Trip around lake Ellesmere ending up at the Yaldhurst Transport Mueseum.

I was thinking about starting off at a central public public place, say the square at 10,00 or outside the canterbury mueseum at the same time. I don't want to limit it to just vintage-classic bikes, bring what you ride, but I don't go much faster than 80 kph so where ever we go it won't be a fast trip (for me that is).

What you think?

Yep, sounds good. 1st Sunday in Feb I'll be heading home from the Vincent County rally and March I'll be heading home from the March Hare. But otherwise, I'll be there.

You might consider bringing a picnic cut lunch and a thermos flask on this one. Bring a torch so you can go down into the underground magazines. It's well worth taking an hour or so to do a little exploring around this historic park area.

Leaving outside the Canterbury Museum 10,30. Bring what ever you like, but this will be a slow trip for some of us.

Might be a pretty learner friendly trip too for those that will not want to go much faster than 70 to 80k's per hour? Not suggesting that you need to have to 'watch over them' or anything, but the speeds that some of the old bikes are going to be traveling at, and cornering-wise I don't see the learners being left behind too much.

Just a thought, might not be good as the WNR is meant to be the learner friendly ride etc.

edit: maybe scratch the idea, learners get enough special treatment as it is without the likes of flip having to worry about learners on the sunday ride too

Nought stopping anybody going another route or even coming on this one, espcially on a Bantum or Cub, no problem with learners here.

It's just me and Ted going for a ride on our old bike, if anybody else wants to come they are welcome to tag along. The VCC don't organise too many rides so I thought I would.

I have added this ride to my diary. I doubt I'll have the Katana ready by then but I should be there on the Raptor. Very keen to have a look at the underground magazines so I should have a torch in hand as well.

If any learner wants someone to look after them or something I'll put my hand up. Seems Im getting slower in my old age and no longer like tearing up the roads at a million miles an hour like I used to, so I dont mind hanging at the back or anywhere they maybe.
