I'm not a fan of rugby...

I'm not a fan of rugby, as a game it is great but the whole social drinking, roughhousing that goes along with it keeps causing me grief.

Anyways, I went out with my wife to a light drinkies, hidden and away from any parties and the game tonight, or so we thought. We live fairly close to Carisbrook so... well we thought we'd escape.

Long story short, some time during the night someone from a party up the raod picked up my bike and threw it down the hill.
I had a disk lock too for extra protection.

and I'd picked up the bike on wednesday.

Brand new red DL650, 440 km on the clock because I've been so busy.

    I'm gutted.
The cops don't think they'll get anywhere with this.
But thanks for the help guys, if you read this.

That sucks the kumara BIG TIME man!!! I'd be completely outraged if this pointless violation of my property happened. Sorry to hear it and I hope you get some compensation somehow?

You can connect it to the rugby if you wish, but complete losers like the guy/s who trashed your bike don't seem to need any reason for creating such random havoc!

Gutted would not describe it had it happened to me, a sad reflection of the lack of respect shown by some to the property of others.

sadly these sort of stories are all to common.

    Feel for you man.

Aw man, that sucks big time. How bad is the damage?

I appreciate your sentiments about the rugby. In Dunedin there is an appreciable minority who use a big game for an excuse to go balistic. Sadly, it's mainly student based, but at least that usually keeps the mayhem to the north end of town. Not in this case though, I take it you're on the hill above the 'brook?

Sorry to hear dude that your another victim of mindless destruction.
I don't think rugby is to blame though. It's more to do with selfish and uneducated individuals who have no consideration for other people.
Unfortunately our society seems to be harvesting more and more of these types of people. Rather than blaming rugby, I would be thinking its a result of poor family upbringing and possibly a lowered drinking age.
But then again - I may be a little biased, as I live for rugby.... and biking!

If it was a student type, I hope they fingerprinted the bike and got some prints. Even better would be if the student type gets done for drink driving, the two get matched up and he/she gets something "nice" to put on thier CV for future employment (or lack there of).

If it was some random social degenerate, all I can say is in certain countries if they were found doing that, they would have been SHOT! And, is that so bloody wrong?

This countries mentality (in this regard) is going to the dump. Rugby has got some point in it. In that 90% of people here, from what I can see, held rugby up on some stupid pedastil, letting it take over anything else. NZ has put way too much emphasis on the stupid sport, and the associated behaviour that goes with it (drinking in a group of other drinkers). It ties hand in hand with Quasi's recent thread about violence. It's just getting worse. For a certain reason I won't go into, I don't feel safe coming home every night. Is that fair? I bet the person causing it doesn't give a shit. Because it's ok to get drunk, drugged and walk/drive around causing shit with RESPECTABLE citizens. Hell, I heard on tv the other night some find it quite macho, no wait - a better NZ word, STAUNCH, to walk around in groups and beat the living shit out of individuals that happen to make eye contact (more lovely NZ slang here, "Step you out" or "do you wanna go"). Do you have any idea how ignorant and uncivilised these "people" are coming across as to the rest of the world. It won't be long before we're as bad as all the other violent countries.

I actually don't give a fuck. The chances of me having children are slight. So, like I have for 24 years, I'll just continue to stay out of trouble as best I can (by having to give in and not go to places where there is likely to be trouble) and by choosing not to be staunch and step anyone out if they look at me, and just walk away (or drive fast as the case was) if someone thinks I am looking at them. I like how we are so "free" in NZ.

I figure if I can do this for say 60 years (quite possible), then it won't matter anymore and the rest of the country (now being run by the current youth ) can do what ever the fuck they like.

That would be one of the most senseless acts of vandalism I've heard of in a long while. Bet you wish you knew the karate guy from PN who posted the details of the tosser who threw a brick through his window on a website!

Was it outside your house or where you had gone for the night? That is so bad, you'd think that even if people were drunk, they'd have a little respect for other people's property.

And I agree with you Stonechucker, rugby is held up as the be-all and end-all in NZ and I get really pissed off - for christ's sake, it's a BLOODY BALL GAME!!! The All Blacks are celebrities, their partners semi-celebrities, and they get paid shit loads to PLAY BALL FOR A LIVING!!! I personally hate rugby, motorsport is far more interesting to watch!

Whether these pathetic morons were rugby fans or not is debatable though, unfortunately this is the kind of thing that happens in any student town on a Saturday night. And it's starting to spread everywhere - we went to Lower Hutt last night to watch the fireworks at Petone (brilliant!) and when we stopped off for petrol when we got back to Levin (about 10.30pm) there were these three young kids no older than 12 wandering along the road. I know for a fact more than my hide would have been tanned if I'd been out wandering the streets when I was that age! As my husband said, their parents were probably at the pub and wouldn't give a damn.

Hope they catch the tosser - but then a slap on the wrist with a wet bus ticket won't do much to turn him into a socially responsible person!
Yes, I am pedantic about spelling and grammar so get used to it!

True, but is it the rugby culture that validates their attitude and actions.

I actually believe that rugby should be banned.

I cannot see why people should be alowed to do on a sports field that which would send them to prison for several years off the field.

But i never understood rugby, it seems just an excuse for thuggery.

Real sorry to hear about your bike mate, I hope the damage wasnt too bad. And insured I hope ? Though that's still a bummer and a big expense what with excesses and loss of bonus etc.
