    Saw the geezer today ...

He's moving limbs and talking coherently although obviously in some serious pain and rather tired...not to mention bored outta his fricken tree.

NC ... the loverly chick that she is ... took in a care package which included a poster, I asked him if he would prefer a hot naked chick or a nice bike poster, he replied "a bike" so I think he definitely on the mend

He was on his way to the Ornatheo...Orthapes...Orthapae....he was on his way to another ward (not ICU) at 1pm

...Oh shit, I forgot to wash off that clinical acid handwashy stuff ...scuse me

I have been letting Ramius know via text on updates on SC.
He is pleased that everything is going well for Stonechucker.
And he also said that, the ward that SC is in, is full of nice nurses.

Here is his text responce back re the poster.
Txt message from Ramius: Thats a true biker!

Nope, that's only a "biker" - a "true biker" would have asked for "A hot naked chick on a bike"

Hope your right about SC shifting into Orthopaedic Wark because most Orthopaedic Wards don't take serious head injuries. I hope this is good news as broken bones heal a lot better an a "broken" brain.

    Thanking about you mate.

Not yet.... I popped in around 3pm and the rude bugger was sleeping! Caught up with his folks who are in good spirits and were blown away by the level of KB support. They were still hoping he would be moved to a ward this afternoon but there was a bit of a toss up as to which ward he would head to. Sounds like he improving steadily

    More information sought on crash

    27/06/2005 13:04:03

Police are seeking information about a serious motorcycle crash in Upper Hutt on Saturday afternoon. One man is in intensive care in Wellington Hospital after hitting the Moonshine Bridge on River Road.

Constable Jim Veale says the motorcyclist involved was travelling with three other bikers. He says police want to hear from the other drivers in the group and the driver of a van, who was seen waiting to turn right into Moonshine Road.

I dont want to talk about his injuries as I dont know too much, but before anyone gets worried about this I thought I better point out he doesnt have serious head injuries, just a minor concussion.

    Hi Guys

I had a long talk with Daves father Andre tonight, he wanted me to once again thank everyone on KB for the on going support. He has told me that the support has been very uplifting for both himself and his wife Sheila. The thing I found most amazing was that he said our support and loving words has made him look at his son in new eyes, with even more respect and admiration.... he never knew the amazing impact that young man has had on so many of our lives.

From me I ask... Dave is a good friend to me, please remember him in the months to come and keep the support going as it is now. He not only needs us now, he will need us in the next few months.

Take care and thanks again from Daves family.

    Joanne

PS - He is being moved out of ICU in about 5 minutes.... wooohoooo!!!

    Good point Joni.
After the initial wave of shock, etc, it can be easy to let these things slip
Dave will need lots of support in the months to come - lets ensure he gets it.

Sorry I haven't updated anyone, I was at work the rest of today and no time to even contemplate looking at KB's - especially since I was a few hours late.

It was quite sobering seeing him. A few people have asked me if I felt better for seeing him and to be honest I didn't...I guess thats b/c he's looking so vulnerable etc. And for once I was actually at a loss for what to say! But, it was such great news that he is out of ICU.

His parents are amazing people! Their positive attitudes and their love for Dave is really inspiring!

Joni and I both agree that it will the weeks and months down the track he'll need us but, he does also need us now and his Mum and Dad are very happy for us to visit him. Hopefully when he's moved he'll be in a ward with some good people who can keep him positive.

What a relief to hear today's good news. Seeing the Medics working frantically in the ambulance was distressing to say the least.
I'm out of town until Thursday but I will visit Dave then - wouldn't he look good on a Honda. Um, maybe too soon for humour.

Maybe we shouldn't discuss what happened on KB but what the hell's up with the people involved or who closely witnessed the crash not stopping! Sub human what. Fleeing strongly implies guilt in my book.
Had to drive that road today and noticed no skid marks at all and the Police markings certainly seem to indicate a vehicle pulling out across Dave's path. That's about the only explanation as to how Dave and his bike ended up where they did. Sorry if I shouldn't have raised this. Just guts me that there was a constant stream of traffic, so someone would have been immediately behind and seen exactly what happened- those 'other riders' for starters. I was coming the other way some minutes later.

    I read this a bunch a times

I looked at the map, at an aerial photo (still to damn chesty to go there) and still don't 'get' it. An 'unseen' impact seems a very logical explanation but thats the Polices job....

In a way... I hope this is not the case. I just could not think about sharing this town with someone making that kind of error and then leaving the scene....

    Cheers

Wow... I don't pay attention for a few days and holy shit... of all the people I thought I'd be reading about, it certainly wasn't Dave. He was one of the non-temporary NZers (even for a South African!!)

Dave, my thoughts are with you mate. All the best. I'll be in to see ya once the madness has died down.

Great to hear Dave will make a recovery albeit a likely long process. I read this yesterday but could not remember my log-on as I am on a different computer than normal in another part of the world. When I first read about the incident my heart sank & I felt sick - just goes to show the impact of this site. I have not met dave or spoken to him directly but I have read his posts and others responses to his posts, been on the receiving end (in a good way) of his posts yet you feel a connection when something like this is reported. All the very best for a quick recovery and my thoughts are with you.

He was sleeping when myself and Skunk Control got there so we didn't go in to see him. Talked with his parents (cool people) and Velox and Bad Lieutenant.

Andre asked us to tell NC that and laptop was very much appreciated. And the KB support uplifting.

Dave was moved, while we were there, to orthopaedics.

Great news that Dave is now in a ward. And am I right in interpreting that he has access to a laptop now? If so, Dave if you're reading this, then here's a sprinkling of happy happy joy joy healing glittery dust to help you with your recovery.

Sadly I'm back in Auckland so won't be able to visit - but I'm thinking of you heaps

"Orthopedics" suggests broken bones. Can anybody report on the extent of damage entailed?

Not to me.. "Orthopedics" suggests some clever bugger wot learned latin out to torture us dull as ditchwater working class types that didn't making our lives a misery in spelling bees. Either that or a really big bill (in Guineas) from a doctor that thought 'Broken Arm Dept' was a bit common.
