I was looking for one of these,but they don't exist in NZ....always happens when you buy another bike eh? 1000cc BMW solves the unreliable Ural motor problems,you can't have 2 wheel drive with a left chair...I'd love a truly capable sidecar.....

Ian L. (Xr600 on the Lost Weekend Ride) has got summat like that but I think it's a Ural (only 1 driven wheel?). And McPhee really wants one.

What would the handling be like. I sort of can't imagine how it would work. You couldn't brake the chair wheel to get round left (or in his case right) hand corners ? And even powering on in the "unbraked chair" way would not work cos the chair wheel would also accelerate ? Making you go straight on ? But it does have a diff so would that work after all? You could do it OK on mud or gravel, like a tracklayer, skid it round. Presumably you can undog the chair wheel drive.

I'd really like to have a try riding something like that, I reckon it'd be an awesome experience.

I think there are 2 versions of the driven wheel,one solid and one with a diff - and the direct drive one is better in slippery stuff,as the diff is no better than one wheel drive when it spins up.I expect it would be a real handful to control....I'd love to be able to make myself a complete fool on it,still keen to ride something new.

I was talking to Ian once about his Ural Oscar - he got it when he was in Russia,direct from the local factory,there are 2 factories,one for export and one for local consumption....in the export factory they aren't allowd to drink vodka,but in the local one they can......there were so many faults in his bike he had to fully rebuild it from new.

The WWII BMW R75 had a driven sidecar wheel so there was probably some sort of differential in there. There was an R75 owned by an Upper Hutt collector (Kevin Bock) a number of years ago, he used to own a motorcycle shop, but the collection was sold off when he died. Was kitted out as an Afrika Corps bike, unfortunately the Spandau was only a replica - could have been so good at clearing traffic jams...

Has that rustic well used but always reliable look and feel to it.
