Definitely report it to the cops, and don't worry too much if it isn't within the 24 hour period, I don't think they'd get too antsy about it. For insurance purposes the company usually requires the accident to be reported as well.
I got hit by a cyclist once - weird accident that one! I was waiting to turn right into a one-way street and was giving way to a cyclist coming towards me - who then turned left into the street without indicating. I turned in after him and it was a sort of Y shaped street - I was going into the left part of the Y so just carried on, and as I got level with the cyclist, he turned as he was heading right - and smacked into the passenger door on the car! He managed to stay upright, but bent his handlebars. After calling him everything under the sun and then asking if he was okay (he was profusely apologising at this stage, a very polite Samoan guy who kept saying "sorry lady, didn't see you"), we went our separate ways and I reported it to the police. No damage to the car and the bike was rideable and the rider unhurt, but I thought I better. When I told the cop the full story he said "Samoan, eh? And he was okay? Well, better luck next time!" I couldn't believe it!
Always pays to involve the police in accidents where there is the slightest injury as if any charges are laid in the future, this could have some bearing on the case.
Yes, I am pedantic about spelling and grammar so get used to it!
