Glad Sam's relatively unscathed. Sounds like she could do with one of these --->
Dead right, filtering is a positive safety measure.

Yeah unfortunatly she was at the front, waiting for the passing traffic so she could go... lucky that the weather was bad... because the lady who drove into her wasn't going very fast... if she had been going faster she could have pushed Sam into on-coming traffic...

Sometimes shitty weather can save lives...

Sam (my partner) is ok, some bruising on her right ankle and a nice limp to go with it... But otherwise she is alright. Thanks to the weather causing people to drive slower and her wearing all her gear.

As for the FXR, I'm still waiting to hear from the bike shop. I'm assuming the repair bill will be a pretty one... given that the rear faring on either side of the seat are damaged, the rear light and indicators are smashed up, the left mirror is smashed and the clutch level is bent beyond repair... That is the visual damage as it was exaplined to me (I was on my way home on the Northern Motorway focusing on riding in the wake of the cagers ahead trying to ignore the rain and hail and wondering why I hadn't bussed to work that morning at the time of the accident).

The possible damage to the engine and bike that arn't as visible could be the gear box (the bike was stuck in 2nd gear after the accident, but was still ride-able as Sam rode it up the road to Red Baron), there might also be damage to the suspension and rear wheel, as she mentioned she could feel a "pulling" sensation while riding it and could hear a rubbing noise from the rear wheel.

The lady in cage was very nice other than running into Sam. She said "I didn't see you... I'm sorry" Sam wears a R-Jays cordura/Kevlar jacket, with YELLOW on both sides, and rides a blue bike... but still wasn't seen... typical...

The lady gave Sam a smoke (lol which she needed) and let her use her mobile to call me. The cops weren't called to the scene, as no-one was hurt badly, and the lady said she would pay for all the repairs on her credit card...

    So once again...

RIDE SAFE out there because you never know who "didn't" see you.

one of them whopromses to pay then disappears into the sunset never to be seen again

    Aik!
    Best Wishes to Sam!

Had my 1st write off in the same way!
except it was a cement mixer that did the damage, my bike ended up about 50cm shorter cos it got implanted in to the car in front. I got a bruised bum (landed on the bonnet of a car stationary in the other direction).

Wow that doesn't sound like fun at all... for you or the bike... glad to hear you were just brusied and nothing else very severe

Sam's leg is a little worse today, her limp is getting worse but the bruising has stopped getting bigger, I've asked her to go get it checked out, but she's not sure how she even hurt her leg, she doesn't remember the exact time of impact and how she reacted... she remembers a "bang" and then next thing she was on the ground away from the bike thinking "I have to get up". So she's not sure if she twisted her ankle or if her leg was under the bike as it fell...

She's going to the doctor to make sure she's not walking around on a fracture... hopfeully she is ok

    totally sux your bike broke.

speaking of not seeing things though-i was da bad guy the other day on the motorway. visor foggy, pouring rain, me tired from overworking. check mirrors, indicate.. change lane. then BAMM HONK HONK from a huge semi-articulated lorry right behind me. i sooo didn't see him. was pretty awake after that. man if i can't see massive moving objects the size of a state house..even when i turn my head...what chance we got...
best of luck healing up & getting bike back on the road.

    Cool

Sam needs to get the foot/leg xrayed to asertain if there is a fracture/break.

It maybe just a sprain, but until she finds out... she also needs to keep it elevated as much as possible.... you know the "RICE" treatment.

Oh cor blimey that means you will have to run around after her now and make her the cups of tea in the morning... not the other way around....

lol yeah... She's like "baby....... can you........ please......... cause I'm hurt........ please....." lol and then theres me *sigh* "ok".

I'e asked her to get it checked out, her ankle is bruised all the inside of her foot... but there is no swelling... I looked last night, but I'm no doctor... She said she'll go tomorrow after work... and if she doesn't I'll nag her until she does...

It'll be something like this: "baby can you......... please........ cause I'm hurt...." and me "well if your well enough not to see a doctor then...."

    hehe

If it's just bruising I've got the miracle solution.

    Arnica Gel.

Better half gave me some to rub on my legs after my off (both legs had hit the handlebars - can now honestly say I know what it would feel like to get hit across the legs with a baseball bat). I went from walking around like John Wayne to the morning after (I put it on before going to bed) having that slow dull ache that you know means things are healing. By the afternoon I had almost 90% normal movement in them. Put a second lot on that night and the next day they were pretty much as good as new.

Do get her to get xrayed though. It's better safe than sorry and if there is a slight fracture or crack she doesn't want bone spurs or something growing. Shit load more painful in the long run.
Hayden - Evidence that even the mediocre can achieve great things.

    ((U+C+I) x (10-S))/20 x A x 1/(1-sin(F/10))

It's the least I can do... I give her shit all the time about all sorts of stuff... And being nice to her when she's sick gets me lots of Brownie points

Like last night I got home from work and she'd made me dinner! Yay! That doesn't happen often

Arnica has a long tradition of use for bruising . Twas one of the witches weeds. You can get arnica gel or lotion or cream at any pharmacy or many supermarkets. It is totally safe.
