Finally on 2 wheels

Hey all,

Liked bikes for years but never got round to getting one, too busy throwing money at my 300zx's. (yeah, I was dumb enough to own several =). Anyway, recently picked up an 00 Honda VTR, hoping to use it for the commute and rides on the weekends. Loving it so far, very easy to ride. Must say though, it's odd riding a bike at night for the first time.

I'm 6'2 though, so by the time I get my full I get the feeling ill be hanging out for a bigger and more powerful bike.

Any tips for VTR owners to watch out for or random comments on them? I figured it was a perfect learners choice with a v-twin and naked bike, plus it looks pretty sweet too.

Just got a 2010 VTR, and I adore it.

Not sure if your model has the adjustable rear shock, but you may consider adjusting it to your preferences.

Also, get a gel seat or sheepskin for the ride, it'll make it alot more comfortable!

Awesome first choice! I am biased though lol I have just gone up to a bigger bike from my 02 vtr, Loved it!!

Rode it all the way to Cape Rianga and back (with no gel seat) although maybe I have enough padding of my own lol

You'll learn some good skills

KEep an eye on the bottom triple clamp (esp. underneath) - can rust on some of them. Also keep the fork stanchions clean (to preserve fork seals) and upper fork tubes can getrust spots.

Take the seat off regularly and wipe down the rear subframe of road spray / salt - esp. if you live seaside.

Other than that - they are a good reliable economical bike.
