    What the

I'm heading home via the great south road from Otahuhu today. First someone decides to switch to the right hand lane, overtakes me then jumps back to the left lane, and then much to my amazement pulls into the petrol station. Wow they got there all of 2 seconds earlier. Well nothing truely strange there I'm use to people doing weird stuff. So I now pull up the lights in front of the brewery in the left lane. No idea why but everyone else decided that they had to be in the right lane as they were at the lights. Anyway the lights go green, I've hit 50km/h before the end of the lights and I'm safely away from the rest of the traffic as I don't really like merging there (it drops back down to one lane about 30 meters down the road). About 100 meters later I can here this whine behind me and there's a car overtaking me at way over the speed limit, must have annoyed him some how. Still I'm not that worried as if someone wants to get to the next set of traffic lights marginally faster than me feel free.

Then two people decide to overtake me, on the left side! What the hell were they thinking there were parked cars on the left not far down the road. No traffic on the opposite side they could have easily overtaken me normally. Also I was allready going over the speed limit at that point there was no reason to overtake me. Only got one of the number plates though but it's better than none, so I used that form on the police website on the driver of BCS774. No idea what'll come of it, but seriously the drivers this morning were terrible. Must be the wind or something.

It's always funny to see when one lane traffic goes into two lanes before the lights. Everyone goes to the right lane because it's the fast lane giving you a clear path in the left lane. Bloody pathetic

Just another day on the roads. Quite normal. Some of us enjoy that kind of thing before we are out our own driveways.
ps - it can get scary out there
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

That's no good Jeremy! Sounds like they were all in the wrong??

How do you feel your riding *skills* were today? Did you have any rather hairy moments? You were the 'tail-end charlie' the last time I rode down 22 with you, how have your skills and riding speeds improved/increased since that time do you think?

Brings on interesting thought about peoples different perception of time, and their blatant disregard to the strict laws of the road!?

The hairy moments of today were the people passing on the left, if I'd had to swerve I'd have had nowhere left to go except the other lane which is not a situation I want to be in. I don't care about the first two guys, they followed the rules albeit not necessarily in the wisest manner. But the last two guys potentially endangered my safety and what exactly can I do about people trying to pass on the left?

I wasn't the tail-end charlie for most of SH22 there were two CBR250s behind me and John on his cruiser (though he wanted to be there so it doesn't really count). And I've got a GN250, it's not like I could blitz down the straights to catch up, I certainly wasn't at the back from lack of trying. Though if you want to donate to the GSX250 fund to help with that...

Do you have an L plate on your bike?

If so, that seems to be the reason.

There is another thread about L plates in here somewhere.

I see a LOT of really stupid things on that bit of GSR. Problem is the road's really wide along there , so people invent "unofficial" lanes.

If you keep to the right of the lane, you leave a tempting width to the left, and vice versa. Even centre lane they'll still try it. I try to watch the mirrors and weave around a bit to put them off. Or just pull left and wave them past , I'd rather I controlled their passing.

The time I was thinking of down 22 was where I had stopped on the roadside to slow down riders as they appraoched that huge crater in the southbound lane 1/3 of the way down, making it only one lane. You stopped remember, and I told you to continue riding, then I followed you for about 10 kms...technically I became tail-end C!

I didn't mean to imply you were a Charlie for the whole ride Jeremy.

It may have something to do with the fact you ride a 250 mate. You probably dented their pride, so they took to a penis measuring contest.

Keeps you awake tho... You have days, even weeks when thing like this happen every 5 mins, then nothing for a month or so. And just when you let your gard drop a notch, a mummy bus with 78 screaming kids and 1 frazzled mum wipes you out at a roundabout!
Like my instructor tells me (after punching me in the face) "Keep your gard up or next time it will hurt!"
    bloody does too
So relax, and whatever you do, dont relax for a moment!
