For straight dirt bikes, maybe yes. The wear would be on the hard chrome. I'm trialling these, basically to see if they help with the seal wear. That said, I didn't have any issues with the KTM seals, so....
Yeah there are so many opinions on the subject of seal savers on USD forks in particular. Seems the only thing to do is try it and see what happens.

One of the best things about the forks for me was the improvement in changing from one car tyre track to the other on a gravel road. With the old forks I'd feel like the front end of the bike wanted to wash out on the lose stuff as I crossed over the berm (hope that makes sense). With the stiffer new USD forks this is no longer the case and that is well good. It also made me realise how much the old forks handicapped the bike.

Thought I'd show a picture of the bike in it's most recent form. Forks have now been shortened 1 inch and have had some major reworking done on them by DAS in christchurch. I understand a lathe and drill were used in the process..

Yup well spotted. It's an 03 gsxr1000 titanium "bazooka". A tad larger than I'd ideally like and I'm still on the hunt for a "01-02". It will do for now though. It's still a whole bunch lighter than stock and is much quieter than my previous "kircher" pipe. That thing did my head in.

If you get a line on an 01-02 could please let me know? Now I've got the flange and mid pipe all done it will bolt right on.

That's a pretty good deal considering WP forks for the f650gs cost $2800 US and a lot of people believe the yamaha forks to be superior.

Help!!! I want to do this to my bike!!!

I really want to do this to my bike but I don't really want to read through the 289 pages on Advrider!

So...it would be great if someone local could help with some advice on the F650 YZ Fork Upgrade.

So far all I've done is download the YZ fork conversion notes.

What does the conversion cost in total? (Give or Take)

What do I need? (in detail)

I'm based in Wellington and used Robert Taylor on my last build (DRZ400e) and not knowing anybody else close by, would likely use him again.

    Thanks in advance.

    Jeremy

I'm still around if you have questions. Bear in mind my conversion was on an R100GS with '05 48mm forks. Relatively straightforward conversion. Conversion cost depends on how much you want from the forks.

My USD conversion on my XT660 cost around $500...
    I used Showa forks from a 03 CR250...with the CR wheel/caliper
put a 320mm disc on with caliper bracket..
was a easy fit up as I only had to change the top bearing
& make a 3mm thick spacer to go between the top dust cap
& bearing... hardest part was the steering stops...

was another $600 on top to have the forks worked over By Lintern at DAS...

find out what the BMW bearing sizes are use that as a base
    to select the forks...

    I do have a 05 YZF250 complete front end cost me $400
was going to put it in my TTR250....BUT..

    ...

90% of all Harleys built are still on the road... The other 10% made it back home...
Ducati... Makeing riders into mechaincs since 1964...
