    Insurance, no rego

I know it's been covered in KB many times, but after half an hour's searching I can't find a thread that gives me an answer. Can anyone tell me what part of what Act covers this matter, whereby you may be covered by your insurance company for damage even when rego has expired? And no, it's not for me! Thanks.

im insured through star and had this same question around a year ago. they said its a 3rd party agreement, registration that is, that has no bearing on their insurance cover whatsoever. they only isnsist that the bike has a warrant, otherwise the insuracnce is void.

hence i no longer register my bike as i only ride on the track now, roads are boring and very dangerours after being on the track.

Contract clauses are not applicable in this case, the law provides for it and absolutely trumps any contract that says otherwise.

Insurance Law Reform Act 1977, Section 11

"the insured shall not be disentitled to be indemnified by the insurer by reason only of such provisions of the contract of insurance if the insured proves on the balance of probability that the loss in respect of which the insured seeks to be indemnified was not caused or contributed to by the happening of such events or the existence of such circumstances."

Do they cover you for track riding?

Regardless, just having a warrant doesn't mean they wouldn't turn it down if it was found that a defect caused the crash. Vice-versa, if a vehicle doesn't have a warrant but doesn't have a defect that lead to the claim, it can't be turned down.
