Anyway I am riding past with a big ole grin thinking thank the lord I am not in the SS or I would be spitting blood right now. But a biker friend wiped the smile off my face. He recons that they can still get you by eyballing the number plate from the rear.

Anyone had similar experiences. I think he just tweaking me, but?
I went for a blast throught the Kawarau Gorge at Easter but on my way was stuck in behind a line of nine cars doing less than 90ks.
Since the whole idea of the ride was about to be stuffed up as soon as we got to the bends I passed them all on the last straight (Gibbston).
I got flashed a few times through the gorge and then got waved over by a cop parked on the side of the road.
Apparently a camera van had clocked me doing 120 or something and reported through to look out for red bike.
The good news he told me that there were no demerit points cos it was a camera.

*Postscript* The cop and I chatted about bikes for a while, he got called to another job and the ticket has never arrived. I think I owe him a beer.

sorry man, they do have the same powers, they are cops, they just specialise(sp?) in Trucks, thou I have to sayI have hardly ever seen them pull cars/bikes up, but it can happen.

Was a black commodore S operating in waiuku yesterday. Hope he got some of those wankers out there who can't seem to leave their speeding for the open roads and back roads. But there aint no audience out there like there is in the main street.... Posers.

Coming towards me, no other traffic on the road, locked on from quite a distance away and just let me go for it. Then had the cheek to tell me to have a nice day - prick!
I used to commute from Palmy to Ohakea daily. The cops based at the weigh station used to have a mufti Nissan 200SX. Maroon I think.

The scummy ole speed camera vanes eh? Damn I dislike those things, there not an active form of road control, just revenue raising (yadda yadda yadda blah blah blah same old story). Lol when I was in the work van I used to park up right up behind them blocking there camera and have a chat to the operator. Hopefully I saved a few speeding tickets those times.

Anyway if they dont get your lisence plate bumber then they have a hard time proving it was you and your bike, all depends on how common or uncommon your bike is.

A few people know that the M/Way utes in Auck are Support staff, not cops. But they do have limited powers and it's very easy for them to pass on regos of miscreants to the real cops.
Like the rider of 32WAW this morning. passed the ute, passed me and continued along the bus lane. I wonder if he'll be surprised at the $500.00 ticket?

If more people 'dobbed-in' bad driving it might make people think "hmmm, might be no cops around but somebody else might just dob me in"

But then again to think implies a brain and a lot of dick-head drivers appear to suffer from a lack of said item!!!

On the whole I'm not keen on "dobbing in". I think it sets a dangerous precedent for bikers. Do we really want the Stans and Mabels rushing off to dob in "that dreadful motorcyclist who was going so fast".

Problem is, there's no way in the system to ascertain that the dobber-in is himself competant. And in my observation, the folk who are most certain of their driving excellence, and the quickest to castigate others as "bad drivers" , are the ones who are most imcompetant.

Down here it is mainly 'passin on yellow lines' and 'weaving all over the road' 'cut me off while overtaking into oncomming traffic' kind of stuff, speeding stuff they just say 'he was flying'.

Not all get tickets but the fact they have been spoken to gives them a rattle-up.

Had one such call from a truckie said he got to the end of the passing lane leading into a blind bend THEN the 4x4 (sorry Motu) with trailer pulled out and passed his truck'n'trailer load of wheat.

Driver of 4X4 said to me "well he put his foot down just when I started to pass him" WTF 40 tons of wheat AND already off the passing lane and he says that???
There was another witness who knew neither party so I tended to believe the truckie.

Not like me to take this view point but we did a trip from Napier to Hamilton and home again in the car on Sunday and I can only praise the way the traffic behaved. We did not see any driving incident that could have been dangerous. It was wet most of the way and honestly it was a great safe trip. Only saw one cop on the road. Picking on cars on a long straight North of Taupo and one red van with the dark windows along the plains south east of Taupo. Click click. So of all the people we came across and drove with I can honestly say it was a great trip. So are we bagging all drives when maybe it is only a few? Or is the driving getting better?

    It's one of those conumbrums(sp).

Everybody is behaving so why have the cops out there?

    or

The cops have been out there so everybody is behaving themselves.
