JSG sorry to about your house being burgled.

Cops here are too busy with handing out tickets to lane splitters and speeders going just over 10km above the speed limit. The senoir cops are all tide up in rape allegations of their own. The 111 emergency call centre is still busy wondering why the public has lost confidence in them. The minister of police is busy attending speech therapy and wonders why he is still a minister. The police commissioner is busy covering his behind and finger pointing at the police budget.

Maybe time we all arm ourselves and dish out abit of public justice to these scumbags.

    I doubt that would help.

My mother's house on Te Atatu Rd was being shot at by some drunken neighbours in the middle of the day so she rings the cops tells them what is going on that she has teh grand children in the house etc.

They tell her to come in and lay a complaint at the HSN police station cause they wont send out the armed offenders squad like she requested. So she does this, driving through the line of fire, buggered if would have.
They then send a patrol car to investigate.
The 2 cops whom turn up are both hospitalised and one lost an eye.

But as you can now imagine the response by the police was now swift.

I don't think they like sending these guys to dangerous situations.
A mate out a Kumeu his son wandering around with an air rifle on his 10 acre plot and they got the works, chopper in the air, flack jackets, belaclavas the whole treatment, but you see they were quite safe there.

Welcome to our brave new world.
A police force that can't attend to burglarys, but has the resources to issue 300,000 traffic tickets per year.
PS They can also afford $400,000 per year for a defective to run the show.

    Ah well, such is life!
I suppose one COULD move to a marvelous country somewhere that has none of THESE problems - and no other problems either??

Me? I'm sick of the public: assaults, thefts, run-away juveniles, wandering stock, drunk drivers, bail-checks on drug suppliers, intentional damage - hell they were causing so much work I never had time to dish out tickets, bastards!!

Still on a positive spin I'm sure SOMEBODY was chuffed that they could ride/drive as they wanted without a ticket - but it just makes it a bit harder to come up with the $400,000 that Lou mentioned.

To me that's the point... we don't have the resources. Greg O'Connor confirms it every time he speaks in public. More police, more police more police.

Combine that with the contracted number of road hours they need to provide to Transit and you can see why the crimes get broken into the "Imediate - guy still here, bust them/life threateneing" and the "we'll get around to it as soon as we get some cars back from patrolling the Motorways"

It's not right - it's not even close to it. I think we (as citizens) need more powers to apprehend and hold - and we also need to be accountable for the mis/use of them - as the Police are.

JSG. What happens sucks mate, and I'm in no position to know what did or didn't happen. But as someone else has already said - look after your sisters, give them a hug, and let them know THEY come first - above anything else. If they didn't feel safe they were always able to go to a neighbour or friend's house. Secure the house as best they can, but make themselves feel safe.

In calling 111 you're asking for help. If you don't get the help needed, you need to provide it for yourself. As you rightly infer, safety is the #1 issue here, followed by possessions.

It's sad we don;t have enough men and women in blue waiting to bust these little critters. But it's the system, not the staff that are at fault. As SpeedMedic said, there are strict procedures in place that must be followed. And if they were not followed, or were not adequate for the situation - please push the issue. The tapes of the incident will reveal the facts.

You'll be doing all of us a favour.

    Good luck chap.

Your sisters should have rung the vice squad and mentioned that they were 15 year-old twins - there would have been a porn viewing squad there in minutes!

Seriously though, you can't blame the cops for your place being done over. The likelihood of the offenders being caught for property crimes is pretty slim and even if there were finger prints left, it's likely the offenders wouldn't be in the system.

Even if they logged the job, your burglary would probably be number 734 in the book so it wouldn't necessarily be attended to that day. Unfortunately, like hospitals, police have to prioritise and burglaries aren't exactly viewed as top priority. Next time tell them to say the offenders were doing burnouts and accelerating needlessly and a cop would be there within minutes!

I think the OP's primary concern was that the 111 operator told a 15 year old girl to try to maintain contact with any intruder. Not a wise thing for a 15 year old girl to do, and a foolish thing for the operator to suggest.

I am always puzzled by the fact that the police in one breath tell us that almost all serious offenders start out as burglars (and use that to justify maintaining a DNA database of suspects); and in the next breath tell us that burglary has no priority, is "only a property crime" and won't receive any attention.

If it be true that most serious offenders start out as burglars, surely concentrating on catching burglars would be an effective way to preempt them turning into serious offenders .

We try to nail them when they are at the shoplifting/milk money theft/ taking skateboard stage but 'those more wise then I' don't see the stepping-stones to serious crime so they're not 'nailed' (or rather we are not allowed to) hard enough at the start.

Plus it's more awkward to get DNA/fingerprint records from them at that stage.

And now 'they' want to ban smacking!!

Well I hope 'they' are prepard to look after the aftermath of lax discipline, no consequence, no responsibility upbringing of these kids.

No wait, argh! THAT is how 'they' themselves operate!!!

Anyone see Top Gear on Sunday? They gave an award to the Chief Constable of North Wales for his fanatical war on motorists, while his forces clearance rate for burglarys was the lowest in the UK.
    Sound familiar?
Winnie does say that he will separate traffic and police duties if he is in coalition, then you may get your burglary attended to.

Winnie the pooh, Winnie the pooh,
Funny little tubby all stuffed with fluff....

Actually - yes - I saw that (Top Gear) and thought it was funny when compared to our very own Transport Saftey Minimister's recent comments about speeding while passing cars...

Its a homicide and as such they will fling whatever resources they can at it to have any chance of identifying an offender. As it happens they have now located the 14 year old offender.

Until the day comes where we all have our own personally issued police officer to follow us around all day and keep us safe cops will have to prioritise jobs. Burglary, sadly, is a volume crime and unless the offenders are present at the time they will naturally be accorded a lower priority.

And before Lou or anybody else jumps up and down about traffic policing, just remember that you are about ten times more likely to be killed on the roads than you are likely to be killed by a criminal offender.

As for the situation that prompted you to call the police swines and useless pigs, I would suggest you make a complaint and request a copy of the Comms recordings so that you can hear for yourself what was said by the call taker you were so quick to abuse. If the situation was as you described it then go ahead, complain to all and sundry. Equally, if you find that the situation was actually slightly different to what was described I'm sure you will quickly get Veronica on the line to apologise to her and that you will publicly announce that apology on the forum of your choice.
