    spotting mufti coppa's

Ive tried my darnest since I got pulled by a mufti cop to try and identify them. Post your best cop spotting techniques for the benifit of our loverly KB community.

Ussually I can spot a normal cop anywhere between 3 cars and 12 cars ahead in traffic on the NW but thats not good enough. I guess the best thing to look for is funny antenna..... thougts?
I only posted this because of the global economic crisis

Hard to spot em from a distance, radar detector will do that if they are scanning! Once you get closer keep an eye out for LED lights in the front bumper/grill and on the rear window shelf, also look out for those plain wheel rims and the short aerials as you've mentioned.

The wheels. Most have plain silver wheels with axle covers only.
The lights - bottom corners of the rear window - bottom middle of the front. First places I scope - every time. Then confirm with the aerials.

I generally just slow for any holden untill I can ascertain whether or not it is a coppa.

It depends on the light and how clean and shiny the glass is on the car - then look for white boxes/shapes, quite often I hit the anchors when it is just a white radar detector suction cup >_<

I also see some holdens with plain wheels but with aerials that are cellphone related - no radar on the dash or lights etc. These are probably company cars in some buisness's fleets.

BTW beware of the 'alloyed/spoilered' S (v6..) series late model Holdens that I have seen a few of lately, right behind them before I clicked it was the poooohlice. Crafty buggers.

I look to see if I can make out a family in the Commodore/whatever. - That can narrow it the chances down quite a bit.

I speed on SH1 more than anything else.So it helps my cause knowing where rest areas are. Revenue collecting I notice happens heaps from them hiding in rest areas around passing lanes. If there is a fancy modern vehicle in a rest area I tend to just slow down.

Sometimes they hide behind trucks and ping people that way. So if I don't get a good view of the commodore refusing to pass a truck, I just slow down.

If you are following them, you can observe a LPG sticker. They do annoying things like driving at 95kmph on the open road and brakeing before they approach the lower speed limit.

In town at night you can often see their radar thing turned on as they watch people pass by. I've had a few close calls though.

At night on the open road? Don't know what you can do to be aware of muftis. - Get in your car with the cop detector I guess.

i slow forany late model holden or ford, although the mufti cars have been worked, the suspention always catches my eye 1st, the car sits lower and on standard rims. then look for the ledlights in windows. also they have different grills with little round lights behind them, keen eye can spot. Ride hard, luck on nt gettn snapped again
There is no dark side of the moon, really, as a matter of fact. Its all dark...

Used to be that you could spot them by lack of dealer plate surrounds (on late model NZ new cars this is very rare, unless they are a rental), plain rims, no tow bar. Now they leave plate surrounds on, have alloy wheels and sometimes have towbars as well. Holdens or Fords, shit there is Mitsi utes, Toyota Corollas, V3000's etc. Very very hard to spot these days. There are a few signs, but had to see from a distance. (Like the others have mentioned, ie lights in rear window or on the dash, short aerials.)

Pisses me off to see our tax payers money going into their nice new Holdens with flash 'police' paintjobs, flashy rims and red personalised plates with generic messages like 'SLWDWN'. If they're going to waste our money on flash cars, they could at least get some lamborghinis, ferraris, porches and maseratis (to name a few), and even a few nicer patrol bikes. I wouldn't mind so much if I was pulled over by a cop and a tricked out police R1

Real easy way to identify mufti cars - just open the throttle wide. You'll soon know which are the cop cars.

Me, I assume that EVERY car is a cop car until I've established otherwise.
