Everyone's hands too tired to wave today?

I was a passenger in a car coming down the Island yesterday & waved to everyone both ways...did'nt get a single return!!! With everyone out for a ride on a fantastic day I pissed the driver off with a hand smacking in his face all the time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Shit, if your avatar is even a remote indication of what you look like, I'm not surprised you didn't get any waves back! Hell, I would have run off the road if I'd seen you!

i wave all the time ( or nod) .. i like to wave while splitting.. just a thumbs up to some kind cager who moves over for me.. also a High Five in a lean makes me feel like Rossi..

too bad my bike weighs 100 kg more than his and i weigh 50 kg more than him..

We rode down to Waihi beach and back on sunday.....about 50% waved back...we all commented that not as many people as usual responded to our cheery greeting.

As a regular commuter I get plenty of waves from both commuters and travellers.
Note to scooter guys tho, don't be shy, hang out a finger or give us a nod.
BTW, spent 2 weeks on Norfolk Island last year, EVERYONE waves, cars, bikes, people pushing shopping trundlers. Nice and friendly, just the way I like it.

You know the story Beemer, the guys/lasses from himitangi corner were all harley riders. Dont expect any waves. If you see a big black muscle bike (me) you'll always get a wave. Even if you're on a tinny little trail bike. Fantastic weather ain't it.

rode to bulls and back yesterday....got waves from virtually everyone who went past on a bike...quite a few groups of 3 or 4 went past too. nothing better than rounding a corner and seeing a bunch of single headlights heading towards you.

Yep, that's the one! We went over to Lake Ferry today (I took the back seat for a change so I could enjoy the scenery!) and got heaps of waves. We went over Paekakariki Hill on the way and had a play with a couple of guys on sportsbikes who overtook us - but we kept with them! Tons of bikes at Caltex Rimutaka, it looked like a bike shop rather than a fuel station!

Got a lot of waves on the way back too, apart from the guy on the Harley with big ape hangers (and a purple and orange jacket - ) who probably would have lost control if he'd taken his hands off the bars!

As for waving to scooter-dudes, I were one for a while 'till recently, so I still have some empathy wiv 'em. U neva know, a good attitude may convince them to upgrade!

I have been taking note of this for a while now. I always wave if I can. My observations :

Scooters seldom wave back or nod etc - but the ones that do seem delighted

When I am on the Whale, crusiers very seldom reply (wave, nod, hand flick, whatever) , sprotbikes only occasionally, GNs and such like sometimes. Other BMWs, oddly, rarely respond. Stuffy lot.

On Li'l Ratty , I get a LOT more responses. Still only rarely scooters, GN type bikes quite often (those that don't sem a bit confused , so maybe they just don't understand), sprotbikes mostly , crusiers quite a lot, INCLUDING Harleys, and even patched gang types. BMWs sometimes.

The one bike that NEVER returns or acknowledges a wave , to either BMW or Ratty ? Ducatis. Snobbish lot the Ducatisti, I reckon.

T'other day I was tootling along Beach Rd and came up behind two Ducs. They moved to the left lane , so I came alongside in the right lane and gave them a wave. No response. Oh well. Then we came to the lights and one Duc moved over in front of me, I pulled up behind him and the other Duc beside me. So I said "Hi" to the chap beside me and waved to t'other guy, who was looking back to check that his mate was there. Absolutely no response at all - might as well have been a rock on the road. Guess they were too proud to be seen acknowledging a mere 250. Odd really, considering that argueably the best Ducati ever made was the 450 Desmo - a four stroke single, not much bigger than Ratty.

Next day, heavy traffic on the motorway, me going South in right hand lane, up comes a Duc going north in HIS right hand lane. So we passed about 6 foot apart at about 40kph. Of course I gave him a big wave, he stared straight at me , and totally ignored me.

Ah well, his loss.Can't blame learners who decide not to bother though if that's the response they get.

EDIT: I suppose it could be that Ducati riders are so busy worrying about how long they've got until the next electrical failure that they can't think of anything else
