if a gsx scared you then you should defintely be starting on something more sedate like a suzuki gn250, a yamaha sr250 or any of the other single cylinder 250's that are a bit slower (but more reliable)Originally Posted by Vilicus

For a start, if you are looking for a mortorcycle, you should go for a Harley, apparently they bear a striking resemblance to a block of mortar!Originally Posted by Vilicus
Whoever told you that sports bikes can be quite uncomfortable to ride under legal speeds was talking crap - do you think anyone would ride them if they were that bad?
For a start, how tall are you - that will be a determining factor with regards to what bike would suit you. No point directing you at something like a FXR150 if you are 6'6". I'm 5'1" and I've mostly ridden sports bikes - they aren't all really tall and with most of them they can be adjusted to suit shorter riders. You shouldn't be restricted to cruisers, although they may be what you like once you try them. I reckon something like a GN250 may be good for you until you improve your skills and get used to riding. Once you have your full licence, you can move up to just about anything you like, within reason!
Yes, I am pedantic about spelling and grammar so get used to it!
Dude gimme a yell. Im the proud owner of a VT250 spada.
really good compromise bike--sporty when ya want it to be -slim -feet flat on the ground. and easy to ride.
I could be convinced to part with it if ya grease my palm with gold

i am about 5'11", well built (personally think) 78kg.
We dont believe in speeding on this site so please buy a 50 if you are worried about speed
Sportbike can be a bit heavy on the joints but then again by a car if you want comfart!

DB is the new Porridge. Cause most of the mods must be sucking his cock ..... Or his giving them some oral help? How else can you explain it?
Dude, you really need to go and bug the bike shops and sit on them.. your the one that has to ride the sucker, so might as well feel comfortable on it.. asking 'what's a good bike..' is like asking a waiter 'what's good from the menu..' if the waiter doesn't like pork, he's not going to recommend it..
Good luck with your choice, tho.. and keep the shiny side up..
And there is the other option.....buy a 200-250 street legal trail bike. Fine for getting around town on. Will do the speed limit on the open road. And you can go off road and play in the dirt. And playing in the dirt is great for getting yr skills up - and dosnt hurt so much if you fall off!
Experience......something you get just after you needed it
I was thinking the same thing - but have you ever tried telling someone that the 'coolest' thing isn't always the 'best' thing?Originally Posted by sels1

trail bikes ok for motorway or long time riding?
I find my trail bike is fine on the motorway and it's great on narrow winding roads. It is a bit slow for overtaking and long distance riding (say Wgtn to HB) but overall it's not bad for a 250.Originally Posted by Vilicus
Only thing with trail bikes, they can't be too big (cos trying to haul a 650 up a cliff would be no fun). Which limits them a bit for long distance road work. But for a single bike all rounder (communter, weekend road rides, fun on the beach and bush ) I reckon a 350 traily (not a motocross, a proper trail bike) would be pretty near ideal. Not too costly to run, fast enough for a blat, and all the good off road stuff, and easy to punt around town. Shit, I'm talking myself into this- only Mrs Ixion to convince nowOriginally Posted by Skunk Control
