    parking in auckland

hello everone, hope yous are well. Sorry if this is a bit auckland centric, but it is revevent to other parts of the country. When ever i have the need to park in the city i try to use one of the provided parking bays (that are listed else where on this site), my favorite being civic centre as it is covered and free, but on a number of occassions there has been no room left. This is not because of to many bikes, but just bad parking. Most people are all over the place. I can understand that folks don't want to park to close to each other for fear of getting a knock, but surely we can all park in the same direction, so that all the side standers are leaning in the same direction and handles bars are all aligned and taking up less room. If anyone here is a everday parker at the civic would be good to hear feed back.

While i'm on the subject, has anyone noticed the parking bay on elliot street, is now home to the 3 wheeled trikes belonging to the pizza company across the road, these things take up as much room as a goldwing, and what was a good bet for a spot to park up is now a pizza bike mess.

    any thoughts

yep - those pizza bikes shouldn't be there - as they are permanent commercial vehicles.

If I'm parking more than a few minutes (like for a job interview), I use the Council's parking guide to work out where the closest park is. For visiting a shop, I parkl on the footpath outside the shop so I can leave the backpack on the bike AND keep an eye on it. For visiting the wife, I park under the overbridge thingie (viaduct?) by Downtown house. If I'm visiting one of my scores of lovers, I walk, so that no-one knows it's me...
    ... and that's what I think.

    Or summat.

    Or maybe not...

    Dunno really....

The free bike parking in the Civic car park has now been rather stuffed up (had the other day anyway), cos where the park area used to be by the stairs up to Borders, is all scaffolding stuff and concrete barriers.. something to do with the dodgy roof maybe? The one at the other end by the Mayoral Drive entrance is still OK. Never seen it full m'self.

So indeed it is. Mea culpa, mea maxima culpa.

Tonight, though the Civic car park is still full of scaffolding, they have created a new motorcycle praking (note, correct spelling this time : car park, bike prak) area at the Borders end, more or less where the original one was, but on the other side of that lane. And actually a bit bigger than it was before. You have to dodge round the concrete barricades a bit, but there's a Motorcycles Only sign up, so it's kosher. Rather good of them, I thought.

EDIT: The very nice Kawasaki Eliminator 250 V Twin is still hanging around there. That's a really nice bike, and I'm not usually a great cruiser fan.
