I'm pretty sure road tyres are harder than race tyres - they sacrifice grip/stickyness for toughness so that they last longer.Originally Posted by mattt
On the track they only need the tyres to last 22 laps or whatever it is and they need all the traction they can get, so they make them out of a softer stickyer compound.
So using a road tyre on the track or getting rossi on a bike on a road tyre isn't going to make the tyres wear out faster than a race tyre. Unless they're softer than race tyres, which I don't know if you can get.
