    Beema problem

I have a 92 R100R, yesterday I started it and got heaps of grey smoke. Shit! This is the first time that it has happened and today not a sign, runs a sweat as always. It had been sitting on the side stand facing up hill and it seemed to be the sidestand pot that had the problem. Anyone know what the problem may be?

Probably nothing to worry about. The earlier airheads were notorious for this , BMW did some tweaks , and greatly reduced the "problem". It's just oil running past the rings and into the "downward" cylinder. Occasionally even on later ones, the cosmic elements (rings gaps ? Heaven only knows) coincide so that it still happens.

So long as it clears after a few minutes, and doesn't repeat it's nothing to sweat over.

If it bugs you, put it on the centre stand

(The K series do it occasionally do, "feature" of horizontal cylinders)

What Ixion said. Dads's R80 does it and so did the R65 I had.

If you want to be safe, try to park it as flat as possible laterally - ie pointing straight up a hill rather than on an angle - as parking with one cyl. head down when the motor is warm, then leaving it to cool has been known to blow seals. Never had it happen to me, but we have had a few bikes in here with that as a likely cause of problems.
