Possible fuel blockage??

I had a great ride on saturday and it was cool to meet up with quite a few people from this forum. Even though it was a bit windy

Anyway on the way up just before the Rumatakas I got really low on gas and had to go on reserve about 9-10km I didnt really notice until later as I though it was the wind but I got a kind of slight on and off loss of power.

Not so noticible going slow but more so crusing around 100 ish.

I am wondering if I have got some crap blocking the petrol flow somewhere... I guess nothing should make it to the carbs the first place to get blocked would be the fuel filter.

I dont have much time to work on it as I am working a lot so I just wanted your guys ideas so I can get straight onto it and fix it as quick as when I have time.

ive got pretty much the same thing with pup. i got her serviced at the suzuki dealer...the replaced a part and charged me $103 to do so. she went fine for the ride to shannon and back, then the next day its back to square one. loss of power when slowing, surging when getting towards 80k, then she levels off at 85-90k. on occasion shell drop her revs right back and then cut out all together.

my partner suggested a few things to fix, he thinks there may be rust in my tank [the original rusted through, and this ones starting as well] he suggested removing the tank when theres no fuel in it and washing with suphuric [sp?] acid....that will remove most of the rust. and he also used a sealant of some kind to coat the insides of his panhead tank, but not sure if we have the equivelant or not.

he also told me to try removing the fuel shut off valve and seeing if thats blocked at all.

im going to try those as soon as i have time to be without a bike for a few. days. hopefully you get yours sorted...its a mongrel to have happen all the time.

I would try checking for water in the carb/s.
Water can accumulate at the bottom of your fuel tank and not be drained out until you switch to reserve, at which time it is sucked through to the carb/s.

The problem is quite possibly sludge in the tank around the fuel outlet pipe. Simply put, it is a pipe with a hole at the top & almost at the bottom. Reserve works by turning the tap to open the lower hole (where the sludge collects). Remove the entire tap assembly and thoroughly clean it, and flush the tank before refitting tap.
