Does anyone know where I can get a transponder and receiver

transponder = little black remote control thingy with buttons, receiver = bit that it sends a signal to; like the ones used on those keyless entry kits and alarms. I only want the transponder and receiver not all the other crap.

I can find sources in the States , about $US60. But in NZ all I can find is alarm kits, or keyless entry kits, hundreds of bucks. I don't need the other stuff in the kit, the door locks and such (no doors !) . anybody got any ideas of a supplier of a one off. Dick Smith don't seem to have anything.

You could try Jaycar (near AMPS), or Surplus Tronics on Queen St?

Does it have to be small? i.e. for the bike or something.... and does it have to be RF? If it's for line of site use, an infrared transmitter/reciever would work..... And wassit gotta do at the reciever end? switch something on/off?

Yeah, needs to be bike size, and RF. Switch on/off at the receive end. Or almost anthing, really , so long as I can detect/measure the change.

    How about:
    http://www.dse.co.nz/cgi-bin/dse.sto...uct/View/L7510
    (a garage door remote add-on)

An alternative is to get a cheap wireless doorbell or car alarm (warehouse type - $50 or so) and modify it. I can help with that if you like, but need more detail on the intended application....

Oh wait...upon closer reading of your post it seems that you want an RFID type thing? You want to detect when the bike goes into a certain area?
