WHY IS IT THAT RIDERS LIKE GARDNER AND SLIGHT BECOME CAR RACERS AFTER RIDING BIKES ? COULD IT BE THAT CARS ARE MORE TOLERANT OF FUCK UPS AND POOR CONTROL
    very valid point.
However, I was thinking of a driver that is adequately good on the bike too. This is flawed already then, huh?
K, I'll borrow Postie's car, drive that round and time myself. Then I'll take my bike around and time myself again..

Does anyone know how car vs bike lap times from Pukekohe stack up?

Once had a couple of Ducati's blast past me when I was in the SS.
They obviously ate the SS on the straits but I was able to recover on the twistie stuff, This lasted a fair while with them caning my ass on the straits and me hauling them back in on the corners until one of my passengers let go.

    Oh well puke happens.

THE V8 SUPER CARS ARE DOING LAP TIMES THE SAME AND SOMETIMES BETTER THAN OUR TOP GUYS , BUT SAYING THAT THE AUSSIE RIDERS ARE PROLLY FASTER THAN OURS , EG KEVIN CURTAIN GOT A 58 FLAT DURING PRACTICE ON HIS SECOND LAP EVER OF PUKE , THATS RIGHT HE WHEELED THE BIKE OFF THE TRAILER WENT ON THE TRACK WHICH HED NEVER SEEN B4 DID A 58 CAME IN AND SAID "THERES ONLY 2 FUCKEN CORNERS" AND THAT WAS IN 99.
I MANAGED ON A COMPLETELY STOCK BIKE EXCEPT FOR EXHAUST MODS TO BEAT A RACED PREPPED BMW BEING TESTED THERE , HE HAD A RACE TEAM , I RODE MY BIKE THERE , HIS RIMS WERE WORTH MORE THAN MY BIKE , AND I HAD SECOND HAND RACE TYRES, WE WERENT ALOWED ON THE TRACK TOGETHER UNFORTUNATELY

I read that article, loved it, particularly the comment about the brake option..

V8 race times are around the 58 second mark. F1 bikes (1000cc class) are running around mid 59s on a good day at Puke

Just wait till R1Aaron gets on a bike.

A GOOD COMPARO IS PIHA , I RACED A 225KW COMODORE FROM THE SCENIC DRIVE JUNCTION TO THE BEACH AND IT WAS NO CONTEST , I ONLY NEEDED 4TH TO BEAT HIS TOP END AND ON THE DOWN HILL TURNS HIS CAR WAS EASILY BRAKING TRACTION AND SOMETIMES CONTACT AND THE BIKE HAD HEAPS TO GO , I WAS WAVING HIM PAST AND THEN OVERTAKING HIM AGAIN.
I HAD A MATE WHOS DEAD NOW BUT HE WAS THE LEGEND , HE BORROWED A TZR250 THE ONE WITH THE SINGLE DISC , IT HAD A BUCKLED FRONT WHEEL , IT WAS NOT AT ALL STRAIGHT AFTER BEING IN MULTILE ACCIDENTS , IT WAS HELD TOGETHER WITH DUCT TAPE AND CABLE TIES.
HE RACED A MILDLY WORKED VR4 ROUND RIDDEL ROAD AND ABSOLUTELY KICKED IT , THE VR4 DRIVER WAS A GOOD RIDER AND A VERY GOOD DRIVER, THE CAR WAS ALMOST FUCKED AFTER THE RACE , THE BRAKES HAD STOPPED WORKING AND THE MOTOR HAD OVERHEATED, THE TZR WENT BACK TO LIFE AS A SHOPPING CART FOR A FEW MORE YEARS THE CAR BLEW UP A FEW DAYS LATER

Piha run is quite short tho, and the good twistie bits towards Piha are too residential, which is a shame, cos that's where it starts getting good.
I've seen cars get down to the beach and have smoke pouring from their brakes before. Also had chronic fade in a car too.

The thing with the loop, is that it's littered with awesome twisty sections, and some very fast sections with long sweepers in. It's a good long mix. Well, if not the loop, then a good section of it.. I prefer the west side at the moment, but I'll have to do the loop a few more times, just to confirm it..

I've never actually done the whole loop. I've gone up the west coast and east coast a few times, but turned back for one reason or another. So have to complete the loop some time soon.. Against a car would be fun tho

Clarkson hates bikes simple as that. Shit test with the CBR600, not very fair.
Grip would have been a problem, the rider looked like he wasn't giving it much in the corners.....possibly needed a few laps to warm tires. Car beat it but not by a lot.
The Atom has given a crescent suzuki a run for its money in an english car mag - EVO i think. Think they were pretty even. Atom beat a stock GSXR1000 by quite a bit. The Crescent 1000 was kicked by the Radical SR3 a road legal race car which was the fastest car of the bunch that day.
The Atom was the slower version though.....not the 300hp, 500kg high spec jobbie thats now available.
I drove the 240hp version and its damn fast......0-100km/hr in 3.5secs or thereabouts. Very quick and lightning fast response.

I came across a Mirage the other day - that thing was absolutely on fire!

The burned out shell's still sitting down the end of our street...

is (was) it a black car, and the back burnt out and the front just has a dent in the bumper, but generally not too bad for something that's been on fire..?? And the interior is completely gutted? Parked on the side of the main road

There was a rumour that Stroud did an unofficial 56.5 - 57 sec lap during practice for the Puke endurance race.
