My neighbours love the sound of my bike........those mad South Africans can't be all bad.

Most things we do in and around our homes/flats etc makes some kind of noise. As long as you don't ring ding ding in the wee small hours they can't complain too much...if they moan at every little sparrow fart noise you make go to the landlord explain your concerns about them being unreasonable, get the landlord on your side and fuck the neighbours.
Lifes too short.....summers on it's way and the highway is calling.

my elderly neighbour often comments on how quiet my bike is....a good thing given im often arriving home in the wee hours of the morning, but i think if i were to get my harley riding buddy to show up she wouldnt be overly impressed. more often than not, the only time i see her is when im out polishing after rain

The former or the latter? The flip side of the latter is the (often absentee) slum-lords, especially some of those in student towns like Dunedin, who rent sub-standard housing out at over inflated prices. That makes me furious . Letting agencies have a lot to answer for too...I read one tenancy agreement with letting agency that contained illegal clauses, and made the RTA sound like a rod for the tenants back! (Said dwelling had a rotted hole in the bathroom floor...)

    the later....
If a tenant makes a damage, landlords should be able to kick them out asap, not 6 weeks after.

On topic tho, I'd go with the light apology approach, with a request that they talk to you direct next time instead of ringing the landlord...

I wouldn't bother with gifts as some have suggested - save those for when you run over their cat/dog/mother-in-law/etc.

If she ran over their mother-in-law, they might well give her a gift...

Arrow There are allways arse wipes somewhere in the neighbourhood.

We get along with everyone except one neighbour who is next to us. The rest are great, but these ones take the cake. They are the typical whinging poms and are quite happy to take a dump on whoever they feel like. Done it to us a few times, which I could live with, but I declined furthur helping them. Thats when the hassles started, they came over at one stage demanding to know who the landlord was. Took great delight in looking them in the eye and telling them that they was allready talking to him, or I could get the misses also. Told them a few things about them that I was pissy with and the relevant statutes/legislation that would help me sort the problem out. They have a snotty little dog which is allowed to yap all day, until the dog control came around. They became real arseholes for a while, until I went over to enquire exactly what there problem is. Dunno if they was intimidated, but the B/S has certianly stopped.
Those who insist on perfect safety, don't have the balls to live in the real world.

Meh i had a guy down the road threaten me saying i was riding to fast... told him to sod off.

Never had a problem with any of my neighbours ever... and i have yet to own a bike that doesn't have an straight through zorst..( excluding current one... for a few months anyway). But yeh i also play drums etc etc and have jams here and we only had one complaint once .... the old lady from next door came and said i was out of time ......

Personally i would write a note explaining the need to warm up the bike so as not to damage the engine etc etc and give it to your neighbours... accompanied by a bottle of wine maybe. If that doesn't fix it. Tell them to sod off.
Lump lingered last in line for brains,
And the ones she got were sort of rotten and insane...

Anyone who dislikes the sound (or smell) of a ringa-a-dinga-ding is certifiably insane. They are old, and old people can't cope with anyone having fun. It is not really your bike that they object to, it is that you are young, sexy, and having fun, all the things they are not. They wish they could be like you , know they cannot because they have irreversably withered, and therefore dislike you for being what they cannot be.

Go see them , apologise, not for making a noise, but expressing regret that your bike, inevitably, because of what it is , will sometimes be noisy. Point out that it does not occasion the slam slam slam of car doors. Tell them that you will do your best to mitigate the effect in future. Then ignore lall that crap and carry on as before, because it does not matter what you do or say, they will still complain

hehe, unfortunately all my neighbours would be younger than 30 . . .

Talked to the landlord last night, he gave me a verbal warning but said that he wasn't really to upset. No neighbours home last night, will go see them tonight.
Dafe - your an evil man!
