Welding motor mounts?

Recently bought a 2000 bandit 250 to pull to bits for some fun and see if I can reconstruct it. Motor runs fine but has one problem (except for being in bits). The motor mounts on the head have broken off in the crash .

Now my questions are:

Is it possible to get the mounts alloy welded back on?
If so would it be able to be certified to go back on the road?

I also need to get the valves out if they are to alloy weld it so do I have to take it into a bike shop to get them out?

if you use a TIG [tugnsten inert gas] weilder you could do it yerself, but i think the work might have to be carried out by a regestered engineer or some one correctly qualified, but they can definately be weilded back on

You should be able to get it TIG welded - get someone who does a lot of ali welding to do the job. In Auckland, someone like Machine Part Welding - must be someone similar in Wellington who specialises in welding "interesting jobs". One thing you will have to watch for will be warping the head. Bolting it down onto a flat plate may help. Check with feeler guages and a surface plate after welding to see if it needs to be machined flat again.

These don't appear to be structural - from what I can see they bolt the head onto the cylinder block. At any rate, even if they do bolt to the frame, there's still no problem so long as they are just to retain the engine , and the engine is not a stressed member (eg, like Vincent or the BMW K series)

If so, they can easily be rebuilt by any competant TIG welder. You won't need any certification since it is not part of the structural frame.

You MAY have to have the head skimmed afterward, any engine reconditioners can do it (and maybe whoever does the welding). It won't cost much

I've had this sort of repair done many times, and done quite a few myself just using plain oxy-acetylene.

Have them build a complete new lug, and reshape and drill it (you can probably do that yourself), not try to weld back the small broken off lug

Removing the valves is easy (though it is probably not essential that they come out, if it is just because of the welding). You'll need to buy, hire, or improvise a valve spring compressor. Be careful the springs are strong and can send bits flying quite a distance if something slips.

Cheers guys. Ok off to find somewhre in Welly to get it done. If anyone knows of anywhere that could possibly do it it would be great to know. Hopefully I won't need to take the valves out then.

Theres a mower shop in Miramar, the owner is a kawasaki 2stroke triple fan, he does good work.

You can only weld Alloy with a High frequency TIG or Gas weld , both very easy to do . Have been doing it for 26y's , most engine rebuilders shop should beable to do this for you or know where to send you .
