Sorry buggy, can't give blood with STD's
Chocolate biscuit; bloody hell thats a bit off, in Ireland your given a lovely big bottle of guinness (something about replacing your iron levels, of which guinness is high in), only one mind you otherwise your likely to fall over very easily, ah happy days.

So no booze no blood, and something to do with the fact that I've lived in a country that has had outbreaks of mad cow,and my blood not being good enough for ya, I ask ya - I'm fine really.

it's poo, and is nothing but trouble. But used right, we can heal a bit quicker than normal. Just a pain to live with if you're injured. Postie had other issues too, but this didn't help him much

I just love it though that when I cut myself (it happens often) I take 20 seconds or so to clot up and Im away
To every man upon this earth
    Death cometh sooner or late
And how can a man die better
    Than facing fearful odds
For the ashes of his fathers
And the temples of his Gods

Well, to bring a very good thread back to a reasonable point.

Donating blood is a very good thing (please note use of highly technical language). Apparently about 3-5% of people donate blood, and about 70-80% of all people will need blood at some point in their lives.

The requirements they check might seem a little stiff, but NZ has one of the highest blood qualities in the world. Partly because they don't pay for donations and hence end up with drug users. New piercings are another factor to check.

As for waiting periods, depends on donation type. Whole blood (easy, and they can use it for multiple things) and you wait for about 3 months (80 something days). They take 470ml, and you need to be at least (I think) 16, and weigh more than 55kg. Platelets and plasma are something like 1-2 weeks. Never done them.

Riding afterwards: Make sure you have a good brekky, drink lots of fluids to replace lost fluids. After my first donations a couple of years ago, I used to ride a bicycle afterwards, and nothing happened, and I wasn't one who poodled either.

CaN: must check my last donation, but I think I'm due again on 14, so 18 should be OK. Apparently I'm currently restricted to which parts they can use because of a trip to Fiji... but I'm still in.

yep... you might say from the above facts I might donate quite regularly.

    My excuse is:
    I ain't fit.
I ain't healthy at the moment - still getting over the flu.
    I hate needles.
They wont except my blood for a certain reason.

So is that enough reasons/excuses from me to get out of giving blood.
