If you are looking for a road going motard you're better off with an older generation 4 stroke like the DRZ400SM. My friend had a Husaberg 650 on the road and it needed to be rebuilt after only 30 hours (fucken fun machine though!). I would go for an LC4 based KTM or even better the 950SM. What I'm trying to say is the new generation 4 stroke MX'ers are great for the track but very unreliable on the road.

Next bike will be a CRF450R supermoto for the track only!

Is that pic at the top Nicky Hayden?

A mate of mine converted his cr480 (thats 82ish ??) into a motard. The smile on his dial after he took it for its first thrash. We saw about 160kms/hr or so but I dont think he was too keen on holding it open like that for too long and it didnt seem to take too long to get there either. It was hard to tell from where I was sitting as he was a small dot in the distance.
He would have raced it but had a nasty off (high side) at toupo on his yz400 and naffed his wrist.
    I can only imagine a 2stroke 500 would be a scary thing.
As for road going motards he loves his xt600. Ive had a ride on it and I can fully understand why. They are sooooo much fun in the corners. As far as i know those xt motors are fairly bullet proof ........(motu??)

See my earlier post ..I have a oder 90s cr,,3 engines for it 2 front ends and 3 rear shocks ..all set up different in mx trim its more than enough for me I am hardly out of 2nd gear round our track ...!It could and is being lightened ...The parts are super cheap ..read 15 year old bike bits off ebay !

Now the plan ...Keep upgrading important bits ...suspension etc ...the motors are fine ,,more than enough power ,,and reliable ....

I can crash this thing as many times as I like ( and do ) and it doesnt effect the resale price ( there is none )

Sooooo IF ,,,IF a cr500 engine will fit in the 250 frame ...I will jump for the rims ,,,,and lower ONE set of suspension ...or find a road bike set up ,,,..Then race the 250 2 smoke for a while to see if I like Motard ...if so then the Cr 500 will be on the list ...

The plannnnn went one step forward today ,,,,,,which is what I like ,,,,

So far this Cr has been a very very cost effective form of racing .....

    Stephen

( note to moderator ..I wont be able to sleep tonite with all those naughty picture in me head ...Cr500 motards ...very naughty .....I will have to speak to nursey I think .......)
