My RZ350 was cool as and handled pretty good for a early eigthies machine.

Around 40mpg. Sounds about right for a twosmoker ridden hard.Maybe a bit on th ehigh side, but it does depend on how much you weigh on a small bike.

Dont loose hope little Kerosene Cowboy, the RG has alot of potential in that little pony.
If you want to improve the handling, they were actually designed to be commuters. So you need to get say $2 (max), change it to 20c pieces, then preload the forks to your liking (also drop them so the sit 15-30mm from the top of the stantions.
Also by the sounds of things your bike it running a bit rich for standard form. Powervalves/Carb could be the problem....but i guess its the plug fouled. Get and iridium one, as they pay themselves back 10 fold in singles.
The RG (E/ES? RR?) motor is also setup so it will have a 'casual' powerband round 6-8K - use this round town/cruising to get round 200+k/12L tank.
The other powerband is round 10K+, this is the one you race your mates in. Soon as you drop below 10K you will loose craploads of power.....but above it you can still scare the crap out of the big bore bike
I still miss my RG.....but alas poor Yorick...its was not ment to be

I rode my bike REALLY hard for the last tank and hit reserve at 198.7km

have you had the powervalves serviced? or do you know the powervalves are okay?

when I first started riding, I was too timid to use full throttle up around the 10k RPM mark

If you are riding with full throttle most of the time and you have been riding for two weeks, your powervalves might be poked

If they are okay, I think you might want to get onto a racetrack.....

don't worry about riding it hard, its made for it

My old TM/TS 400 was a cuddly old bear - that could slice you down the middle in a split second if you didn't hold it on a choker.I've ridden a few MX bikes in the 250 to 500 range that make your eyes as big as saucers and your hands can't stop shaking - a dead give away that you just shit yourself.Literaly - they leave you speachless....

My DT230 has done 25,000km,some of that off road, and has never been apart...it goes like a ginger tom with a turps enima and I ride it like I stole from outside a cop shop,it revitalises me and puts a spring in my step....I feel 30 yrs younger when I ride it.My biggest worry with it,and I remember I felt the same way with the TM400 - is that it will light up the rear wheel, step out, then bite and toss me off.On the back roads I ride sometimes coming out of a turn on a brow very hard the bike gets very light,if I spin up there I think disaster is not far away....2 smokes don't hold a slide, they snap back into traction with a bang. The only thing to wear out is rings and pistons, bottom ends for half a doz top ends, rev them till the stop - no valves and springs, all those dumb things are gone.

A road racer puts out more power than an MXer,because the dirt bike makes power over a wider rev range, watch the MotoGP 125s and 250s,they are just nailed the whole way, revs only varying by 1000rpm max,an MX bike will go from 10,000 to 5000 and back to 10,000rpm in a second, and do it all race.

ONLY if the donkeys have nice tits. It's OK for you scrubbers but we decent folk have standards to maintain.
