    What do I do with the 250 katana now?

    Hi guys and girls, im just looking for some suggestions

    I have just got my full license, and am looking for a new (old) bike as I type this. The 1992 gsx250 has just clocked up 70,000kms. It still goes bloody well, no smoke or anything like that and has always been run on full synth oil since I brought it at 23,000kms. Most of the kms have been on long distance trips, such as 8000kms around the south island at xmas.
    I have had the frame re-painted and replaced the rear shocks.
    The only problems it has is the front disc is a bit 'grippy', so possibly needs machining, and one front fork has started leaking.

    Should I sort the disc/fork seal out and try and sell it on trademe? Should I try and sell it as is? Should I sell it to a wrecker? Should I wreck it myself?

    I was looking at getting a suzuki sv1000s, so was thinking of trading it in, but im not sure about paying that kind of money for a bigger bike just yet, and it seems like the trade in value of the katana would be rather low.

    Thoughts, suggestions, offers? (will trade for single girl or girls)

    Why would you consider wrecking a relatively low mileage 250, in (from the sound of it) pretty fair nick) ?

    If you don't6 want it , sell it at a fair price to a beginner.

    Well, what are the general thoughts on kms for a 250? Is 70,000kms high?
    At 100kph the revs are around 9.5k and the piston stroke is around 33mm.

    Once any vehicle is more than about 5 years old, the mileage figure becomes rather irrelevant. Real question is , what nick is it in. A bad rider, who doesn't bother with maintainence, and a 250 might be clapped at 30000k. Good rider, well maintained good oil etc, could well go to 150000 or more. What does it matter if it's done 70000k if the motor and box are still sweet and sound.

    70kms is a tad high specially for a 250. They do rev their nut off in comparison to the larger bikes. Put it up for sale on this site then try your luck on Trade me. As said before, no need to wreck a bike in good working order - seems a waste if you ask me....

    ive seen the bike first hand and its in MINT condition. I freaked out when I saw the 69k
    I only posted this because of the global economic crisis

    heh you never saw my last bike did you, it was a zxr250a that had doen 112000k's when I traded in and that had been treated with the utmost care most of its life (not to be mistaken with it getting ridden like it was stolen for most of its like, think CK, affman then me)

    see above, I found out the other day that my old bike is still going strong and superdave has bought it, and in all honesty I would purchase that bike over any of these early 90's cbr's and zxr's that read 4xxxxx k's on the odometer solely for the fact that I know the history of that partticular bike.
