Indicating Rules - A Joke!

Whats the point of the LTSA bringing in the new Indication laws a few months ago.

It seems, only 10 percent of drivers seem to know how to use them correctly anyway.
Just yesterday, I followed a car turning right through a roundabout. As we we were both exiting the roundabout, he's indicating right and I'm indicating left but we're both headed the same place.
The other thing is, It seems the only people using the rules correctly are the ones who previously indicated correctly anyway. So it's more rules for the few of us, whilst the drivers that don't give a toss anyway, still don't give a toss! I heard these rules were to be heavily policed, I haven't heard of a single case yet.
The LTSA's new laws have now created a fine mixture of indications at roundabouts.
Also, why in the last three years, have drivers stopped indicating when changing lanes on motorways??? Is it cool to be rude?

Some Wellington drivers do indicate! Of those, half indicate the wrong direction.
Perhaps those that can't get it right have decided to stop adding to the confusion and don't indicate at all.
Good point though.... Is this just a Wellington thing?

Auckland drivers tend not to indicate. I've only seen a couple of instances where people were indicating incorrectly, thought.

Mind you, if more people used their indicators I'm sure more of them would be wrong!

Its all very well clarifying the rules but hardly anyone has taken any notice.
Roundabouts are designed to keep traffic flowing.....they don't in NZ.
Don't know how Kiwi drivers would cope in Europe with 5 lane+ roundabouts.
If they'd only realise that by indicating right when effectively going straight through a roundabout that they stop traffic coming the other way (as they think they are going around)......jeeez, the simple things seem the most difficult.

I was quite disparaged at work back when they first announced this on the news, of all the people I sit with at smoko, not a single one could grasp the concept correctly, even with diagrams!

Admittedly, I don't signal when exiting a roundabout when on the bike purely for control reasons, I'd rather take a ticket, but when in the cage I do it.

Dunno that I agree with that. I spend a lot of time in Auckland traffic. mainly on two wheels, though sometimes 4. Vast majority indicate - maybe a bit late, but they do it. Perhaps one, two a day don't that's a small percentage.

Only consistent place people don't is not indicating the left for the exit when going straight ahead at the little roundabouts. Which is because you don't have time, by the time you're past the left leg of the roundabout, and get your hand/thumb on the indicator, you're actually off the roundabout. Might get one blink, max.

But one is better than none, and on some older bikes you need to consider the lag between hitting the indicator and the thing actually flashing. On the old bike I had to preempt it a little.

To indicate correctly, first, you have to have some idea or concept of how traffic actually flows and moves on the road and where you want to go - this is beyond the grasp of 85% of the people out there! As is the concept and practice of vehicle control!

Theres something worse than those who don't indicate or indicate incorrectly. It is when drivers insist on turning right in the left lane of a two laned roundabout. I see this happen almost everytime on certain roundabouts despite the arrows clearly painted on the road.

Just so no one flames me about this, I'm reffering to the normal roundabout where left lane is left and straight and right lane is right and straight, not those 'special' few motorway onramp ones.

Are yes the special Greville Rd for instance.

Where some retards despite the road markings decide to go straight ahead on the right lane when the left lane has markings that they can turn right. Phark me this is scary on a bike and even worse in the car where it can't respond as quickly to the big brown puddle situations!!!

Lets face it with the given number of auto pilots and the numbers of don't cares out there we're lucky that we are still here typing!!!
