Why do you think the head gasket is blown?
It’s not a case of just undoing a few bolts and having a look.

    Doesn’t sound good!
I'd love to help but I'm in Auckland!
What you could do is wind it over with the plug out to clear the water out of the offending cylinder then re-fit the plug, start it up and see if it is pressurising the cooling system.
Or put a pipe in the radiator filling point, it has to be a tight fit, fill it with water to the top of the pipe and start the bike. (You dont need to use a pipe but I find it easer to do it this way)
If you have lots of little bubbles or in some cases big ones, you probably do have a blown head gasket.
If you are going to do the job your self then remove the motor from the bike and mount it on a clean bench where it is nice and stable with a lot of room around it.
    Mark EVERYTHING you take off!
You will need to get the head presser tested, send me a P.M. when you have it all to bits and I will see what I can do to keep the testing costs down for you.
    Good luck.

If you have the head off you might as well get it tested.
Still, if a gasket set is cheap enough and you don’t mind doing the job twice...

Sometimes when you blow a head gasket you can get a small crack in the head. Because you have to take it apart to fit the new gasket you would be stupid not to get it checked otherwise you could find yourself doing it again

Even if it's not cracked there's a good chance it'll be warped. Blown head gasket = local overheating.

Not a bad idea to have to top of the block checked for straightness either. Don't want to reassemble it all and blow another gasket.

    OK

well at the moment the engine is sitting on my bench.

i also found out that one of the engine mounts has been cracked off. My friend around the corner knows a enginner that he will take it to to get welded.
I have found a gasket to go in it so thats good. So once the engine is welded i will pull it down and clean it out mabey put some new valve guides in while im here and make sure all the valves are seating properly.

on reason for me to think is that the last people to work on this bike i think didnt really know what they were doing and i dont think that they torqued up the head properly mabey the cause of it blowing in the first place.

well thats all so far i hope tht when its finished it will be a nice powerful engine and last long enough for a season

    cheers, Glenn
