so is that bit for sure then?
what happened to the tolerance/error of mechanical measuring devices?
lets write to the bastards explaining about mechanical and paralax error, simple sixth form physics that i learnt about in fourth form. that is a stupid idea...my hondas speedo reads fast so that doesnt matter....but still, when i ride i usaully keep it to 110 taking full advantage of the 10k rule. the 'revenue collectors' need to realise that our speed indicating devices are more likely than not to read/show our speed incorrectly, for example, my bike has non-standard tyre profiles on the wheel that the speed readings are taken off so my speedo reads and shows a higher speed than it would in standard tyre profile form. if we have new higher profile tyres or rims with a larger circumference then the speed indicating device is going to show a slower speed than it usaully would, therefore the speed camera would say we are doing 102km/h when the speedo could be reading 98-100km/h and then we could bring parralax error into the equation if we so happen to have an offset speed read-out device [well, only if it is an analouge device] and be able to claim that this idea is absolutely ludicrous anyway thats my rant, sorry about the spelling in short i dont like that idea

    Too much Bundaberg
I know you were probably drinking when you wrote that but...

I for one have just about had this shite. This is just becoming an exercise in how far people can be pushed before they break.

How many times have you come up behind a vehicle doing (say 85 kph) less than the speed limit (like trucks are supposed to - ha ha) ?? So you want to pass but unless you have a very long passing lane, it's not possible to do so without exceeding (briefly) 100kph... Half the time 'cos the idiot doing 85kph speeds up because it's a nice wide bit of road and immediately slows back down afterwards...

The good people will continue to be good and mostly responsible and the arseholes will be arseholes regardless. Rather that Police the well known recidivist arseholes we all have suffer so that it's 'fair'.

It's bloody stupid and removing all risk in driving is virually impossible. We are surely in a position of diminishing gains.

Naturally the 600 men that die of prostrate cancer every year are not worthy of saving, nor are the hundreds that face amputation from diabetes complications and yet I go out on the street, attend street fairs etc etc to collect money to fund research and help run diabetes wellington...

Well bugger this. I've totally lost it with these shitheads and am prepared to support some sort of movement to protest this... Anyone else?

Start by writing to your local MP and opposition MP's. Try to keep it civil and reasonably legible. Apparently they work on the principle of one letter representing 100 unvoiced opinions.
The Govt. is very vulnerable to criticism on this issue right now, especially with an effective opposition facing them.

I remember they did a thing the UK a while back where one person drafted a letter and then everyone just printed it out, signed it, and mailed it to their local MP.

    Could be an idea?

ok - I'm happy to do the writing, but I need the facts.

Gimme a number of issue we face...

Prostate cancer, the number of deaths and what's needed
Melanoma, # of deaths and what's needed
    Ovarian Cancer...

    etc.

Please include a source for the information so it's credible.

I don't pretend to know all the issues so I need some help here. We can put this raod bs in perspective (as a money grabbing stunt if nothing else) and bring some attention to the other topics at hand.

How much does it cost to geta full page spread in the appropriate mag or paper? Can we/should we do that?

edit - incorporating weasel's idea - why not put a reply on the bottom of the ad? Postage to an MP is free isn't it??? we could generate a hell of a mail flood... /edit

Get Ministerial air time (following the bad press we generate).

Who does this stuff for a living? What other allies do we have (various car clubs, various associations for those causes we want to get airtime for...). This is a lot bigger than "just" KB. I think we can really make a go of this if we want to...

... and I think we should...

Form letters don't carry that much weight, unless you rephrase it.

Reasonable idea, would suggest writing to MPs first, if no joy then take it to the papers.

I'd be careful with who we assosciate ourselves with. Won't help our cause much if we've got loads of boy racers in Subarus standing next to us, we'd be dicks by assosiation.

I think that, as a country, we have problems learning from others.
Then those drivers, along with those bad habits go and occupy parliment and come up with these stupid, totally lacking in common sense or logic ideas. I've got two choices if it becomes law as far as I can see. Either put the bike rego on hold, or just remove the number plate. Some people in power just love to show us their apparent lack of intelligance Why did they get elected again???
Those who insist on perfect safety, don't have the balls to live in the real world.

I'll try and dig up the stats, but we're well worse than UK, most of Europe, US, Aust in terms of fatalities per 100,000 km's travelled.

Yeah - I'd want it to be credible allies (the AA rather than the "Otara Street Drags Association") and it would probably carry more weight again if one of them could front it... being more recognisable that KB in branding/general awareness terms.

I still need issues though people... preferably under reported ones that look bad alongside the road stats.

    Prostate Cancer
    Women's Refuge stuff
    Alheimers...

    who knows this stuff?
