Thumbs up Is it Viable to have "Bike" only Lanes???

I've travelled extensively and lived in Asia for many years, motorbikes and scooters are the most pervasive transport in crowded metropolisis. Despite the smog and all, most of these cities have seperate bike lanes to accomedate Motorbikes, even on motorways, while cars travel on the outside lanes...Personally I think this puts bikers less at risk and thus not pissing the cages off from doing silly stuff...what you think? doable in NZ? OR.....Just let us use the Bus Lanes...hows that?... We pay enough dame ACC levies

they do have separate bike lines in Auckland city.
    Not the motorway.

That is 'bike' as in 'BIke'. Not Motorbike, although you are allowed to use it.

I'd be wary of using a motorcycle only lane - look at how many drivers bowl along at warp speed nine in bus lanes!
Yes, I am pedantic about spelling and grammar so get used to it!

And then just think of how any BIKES would bowl along at warp speed 9 in the bike lane.

Not all bikes can do that though. So we would need three lanes. One for scooters, 125's and 250s. Another for cruisers from 400 to 1100 and tourers, and another lane for sportbikes and powercruisers. All of wich would still only amount to about 1 and a half car sized lanes anyway.

And in reality, it still wouldn't stop cage drivers in them

Ok fair enough. So now we need to think of a barrier to go in between the lanes. (each lane will only be about half a car lane wide) that will do three things. 1; allow bikes to move between lanes 2; be safe for bikers if ther should be an off 3; do a fair bit of damage to any car that should be foolish enough to drive in the bike lanes.
    Any ideas?

Are we ? I have been trying to find a definitive answer to that. My impression was that we were not allowed to.

can we add snake pits, jumps, and grind rails? then we would have the hell arcade styles lanes, and set up a forum to compare high scores

Cordex is basically an explosive cord used for breaking down doors ect. Makes a hell of a bang. Heard a funny story that if you wrap it around someones neck.......... maybe its not funny.

    Good idea however...

We can't even afford roads so I think bike only lanes are a dream. Nice idea though but it ain't gonna happen especially with this government.

What's with the bus lanes anyway? If people can't afford a car or choose to take the bus then why should our tax dollar give them the benefit?
