Another biker down on Te Rakau Dr.

I genuinely think Ti Rakau is cursed or something, I travelled it every day for 3 years whilst working in East Tamaki, and saw a minimum of a crash per week, where impatient/stupid drivers would take the stupidest risks, and pay the penalty for it. Strangely enough, I seldom saw any accidents on any other roads ever, and I was commuting from Lynwood Ave in New Lynn, so i covered a truck load of ground every morning/afternoon.

Oddly enough I rode down Ti rakau yesterday, which I very rarely do, though I do regularly ride other roads on the area. and by the time I got off it I was quite stressed out with near misses and avoidance . I remember thinking "what a crazy bunch of drongo drivers there are here". Don't know why one road would be so much worse than others.

Best wishes to the Rider and his family and friends. Hope the operation is a success and doesn't impede him in any way. A thought also to the people involved in the accident.

My thoughts are with you and the rider...as jim says AFTER he heals its his decision...they told me the same...(just had to ride in plaster for eleven months,slows ya down a bit but sure saved on boots ...OOOPS did I say that)

Yeah, me too, but a couple of years ago now - Audi driver did a u-turn into me. It's SO hard to do anything about it once they're U-turning, because they turn so much quicker than you can swerve or slow down.

Luckily I wasn't too badly injured; good gear, including Knox knee armour, and boots with ankle cups BOTH sides helped save my leg from serious damage.
Don't remember if the driver said sorry or whatever, but I hurt for a long time (still have twinges), and it was nearly enough to make me give up riding.

Anyway, I hope everything's alright for this guy.

yeah well not much is going to change while the focus is on revenue and not genuine safety...although i am sure the cops could make a fortune out of catching redlight runners. But noooo...it is speed that kills us.

Ti Rakau is a nightmare everyday. I now go the 'long way' round from Sommerville to Ellerslie via Cascades Road onto the Paka' Rd and still save at least 15 mins each way.

Update on our mate. Rhino and I went to see him today and he is in good spirits. It's looking much more positive than when I first posted.

He has not needed surgery as the doctors first thought. They have put a knee brace type thing on his leg and will then get him up and using crutches. He hopes to come home either Monday or Tuesday!!!

Thanks everyone for all your thoughts and messages. All is looking much brighter.

Then father Jack would yell out "DRINK!!!".
But seriously, you see what I mean though don't you?, its perhaps a bit melodramatic on my behalf, but for me, its hard to ignore.
