    Leigh Pakiri Mangawhai

Can anyone tell me how much (or how little) loose metal there is on the road from Leigh to Mangawhai??

I travelled it a couple of years ago but can't remember the surface.

    Thanks

Stuff all , alas. Maybe 10km, and that fast. Y'won't even need to slow down. The hill road out from Pakiri Beach is a bit more technical, when I went over about 3 months ago the metal was deep and heaped. But the main Leigh road (Via Goat Island Bay) is a very nice one.

From the top of the hill down to Pakiri and beyond is gravel, and the road halfway to Wellsford.Coming up the hill from Pakiri on my XLV750 was one of the best rides of my life, one of the few roads I was ever able to use it to it's full potential - imagine unleashing a 750 V twin on a gravel road and giving it all it's got,it stormed up that hill bellowing like a roge bull.

From Pakiri to Tomarata and Mangawai is gravel, very nice roads in there....

Well, I'll be on my little M/Strada so it will be interesting! I got caught up in the detour at Kawakawa a couple of weeks ago and the bike just didn't really notice it was a loose surface - only problem was the dust from the hundred or two cars I was sharing the road with. Plus I had only a couple of hundred ks at that stage. We'll see how it goes - maybe not so much rogue bull as fairly angry bobby calf - this time at least!

I didn't see then incident but did see a sport bike apparently being picked up and a couple of cars stopped though no-one appeared to be hurt.. It is a real shit of a road to have quite heavy 2-way traffic on it - in a couple of places I thought I was going to be shoved over the edge. There was a ute with a hugely wide trailer - maybe he was the culprit?
