Fuck 'em, who cares if the twats kill each other.
i don't actually mind if they're travelling on the right - means i don't have to cross the centreline to pass em

The real scary thing is that the dickheads here (Auckland) haven't read the "keep left" rule... I see morons who join the (3 lane) motorway from the left, and proceed to instantly go hard out for the right hand lane, even if there's no traffic around. Go figure...

This is to the comments on writing to people/votes for last election and stuff. I got this quote off Billie-Joe Armstrong from Greenday on their live dvd/cd, Bullet In a Bible. He has a bloody valid point too. Just don't take it to the extreme 'cause then it's anarchy but that's another story.

I drive/ride in Auckland every day, I'd like to defend the drivers here but they are much, much worse than you could ever believe!
But even combined they are not as bad as the taxis!
How many other industries are there where you get worse at it the longer you do it?

How to make the roads safer...

Stop giving me tickets for 11 km/h over the limit.

    Works like this:

I've had a licence since 1967. I reckon I've ridden/driven well over a million miles since then. No fatalities, no serious injuries, not a single ticket for anything remotely dangerous. And only 4 speeding tickets in all that time. Trouble is, the last three have all been in the last 15 months (all for 11 km/hr over). Two more lots of demerit points and I lose my licence for 3 months. I not only think that I'm a safer driver/rider than average (yeah, I know, everybody says the same thing), I think that the statistical evidence proves it. So what will happen when I have to start walking? Removing me from the roads will decrease the average safety level of all road users, infinitesimally perhaps, but decrease it nevertheless. And what might be infinitesimal in the case of one individual becomes a lot more significant when multiplied by thousands of similar individuals.

So here's my message to the HP: do your bit to improve the average safety level of road users by letting me keep my licence.

    You've got the wrong target.

But I expect you realize that anyway...

If we get penalized for breaking the law, we should be rewarded for obeying the law!

Say, for certain period of driving at 100kph (not breaking the law), we should get a voucher for speeding that we can use if we get caught.

Or, if we get through a year without even a single parking fine, we should be commended for being a nice citizen and get a free speeding voucher redeemable in the next 12 months.

    How's that idea?

I find this whole 10kph over the limit thing a bit strange - it never used to be there,it's a fairly recent happening...and in days gone by getting a ticket for 1kph over was quite common, really really annoying, but it happened, often. But then like MikeL,I've been on the road a long time with very few speeding tickets, and I bet I was speeding more than him in my youth! But I got heaps of warnings, getting pulled over by a Traffic Cop was a big thing.

Another thing is how it makes us think - we don't get a ticket unless we are doing 111kph,so 110 is ok...ok? But I can ride at 120kph,and if I see a Cop,then just back off, touch of brake and I'm at 108kph,no worries! It's like lowering the drinking age...only those over 18 can buy booze - yeah right.110kph is legall,so I can do 120kph no worries...it's my right!!

I've never heard of this, ever!
The lowest I've heard was 5 km/h over a couple of years ago in Nelson. And the area Commander responsible for the policy was mysteriously transferred soon after.

BTW. The cops answer to the holiday road toll - tougher enforcement.

Someone tell them it hasn't worked in the last 6 years.

I got stopped for 54mph once (when the limit was 50) . Only a written warning though. I suspect the snake had seen me around blatting about at much higher speeds and wanted to "put me on notice". And I did pull it back for a while after that , too. The old snakes were more into trying to improve driver behaviour rather than just dishing out tickets, IMHO. The MOT and ACC ones anyway. Some of the one horse town ones could be real arseholes.
