Piss poor effort from bikers.

A biker who turned out to be a fellow KBer had a breakdown close to BP Silverdale.
It happened at 6.15 at night.I stopped at around 6.45 and he said he had it all under control.
at 7.45 i went past him again -towie still hadnt turned up.
It finally turned up at 9.15pm
In all that time NOT ONE biker bothersed to stop to see if he was ok.
and yea around 15-20 bikes went past
Pretty piss poor effort I reckon.

I hope it was not because of the type of his bike. Where have all the "Gentlemen/women" of the road gone. Are we so self-centred as Kiwis now? Get as bad as NY'ers.

nope -the bike concerned wasnt an issue being a sports/tourer

Hey Frosty, sad to say, but just prior to xmas, I had the exact same thing happen....3 of us stuck on the side of the taupiri road, waiting 2 hrs for the towie to turn up, at least a dozen bikes went past, and no one stopped to see if we were ok or needed a hand.... being in the complete middle of nowhere in the pissing rain, it was obvious that we hadn't stopped for a f@#kn picnic. Really didn't instill my confidence that if I broke down and was by myself, someone passing would stop and help out... must do a motorbike mechanic course methinks....

all my years of riding,i have always stopped 4 a fellow biker.i can remember stopping 4 an american biker,who woz here on holiday,he woz riding a bonneville,broke down in the mamakus b 4 vegas there,it woz pretty dark 2,his misses had thumbed a ride into vegas.i stopped said u alright mate,wanna chuck the bike in the bak of the van?drop yah off in town.he diclined, said his misses is cumn bak with mate and a small canter.sweet bro?so i guess u gotta have a heart 4 bikers who have broken down...i still get a buzz out of seein bikers on the way 2 work while driving....have a heart and stop 4 bikers.

Good post Frosty... it's gotta be a combination of do unto others, and the family of bikers.

Hell's bells even if you're only carrying a cell phone - stop to see if they might need to use it...?!?

Sounds familiar, I had about 10 bikes go past while I was sitting on the side of the road next to a broken bike in Tauranga yesterday. In an hour and a half, only 2 people stopped, both of them ladies.

Exactly MDU. I may not have the mechanical skills but have stopped to offer help in the past...and will continue to do so.

I actually rode past a guy broke down on a norton last weekend. But 400m on i decided it wasn't the way and went back.

He'd already called out a mate with a Ute (thank christ for cellies aye).

We had a good chat - he'd been to Akld and back - his first issue luckily, a dead battery - no good with CDI. So there was nuthin that could be done other than wait.

I took off on y boring reliable japper - hope he got picked up b4 the storm arrived - it was REAL nasty!

I was heading back down Peak Rd at that kinda time..
I didnt go up to silverdale at all thou... I would have stopped to see if all was ok...

Recently I was sitting on the side of the road just out of Orewa on the hill waiting for a towie to tow my mates car...
Yeah I spotted them broken down, so I pulled up on the bike.. and used my AA card to get help and a towie for them.
I was the one who waited for the towie as they all had to be back in town for rehersals.. they got another car to come and collect them all.

Anyway while I was sitting on the side of the road... watching people go by, as you do... heaps of bikers going either way all slowed right down, to check, they didnt stop but I did give them the thumbs up signal... so that was cool.. No problems at all. Even a few of the gang boys slowed down...

So even if you slow down enough to just check... the rider will either say stop or give you the thumbs up signal which if you get that then all is sweet..

Must be a dorkland thing. Yesterday when one of the guys lost his chain and we were all sitting on the side of the road getting it sorted, a couple of bikes stopped and another 8 slowed down until I waved to signal we were fine. Not one carried on without slowing down.

This is one experience. I on the other hand had a different one. A rider went down on a ride reciently. Everyone stopped, did not matter what sort of bike it was, nor cage. There was plenty of bods to help, but only so much could be done till the chopper arrived. I can say that I was most impressed at the amount to assistance on offer. Hope the dude is OK now.
