Very few NZ riders, probably because our country is so small, appreciate the difference between a FAST bike and a QUICK bike.

A Harley sportster may not be as fast as a GSZR1000, but I'm very confident that in a trip from one side of the USA to the other (for instance), to be done in the minimum possible time (no support crew or anything like that, and take your chances with the cops) , the Harley would arrive long before the Suzuki.(Remember, you'll need to pack all your own luggage, btw)

Fast is only synonymous with quick over very short distances. NZ riders seldom ride any distance, a 400km ride is considered long, so they don't understand the difference.

spot on except a sportster is not ideal for touring, small tank might look great but the distances in the states are so huge you would have to stop at every petrol station

Well I have toured extensively on a sporty, whats yr perception of small? You can still get 200km's out of a tank before you go onto reserve... you just have to do abit of planning if you are travelling in the sticks and make sure you are aware of yr mileage. Oh and BTW I now ride a Buell and can do 300km's on a tank but have to stop every 200 anyway cos the Jappa's I'm riding with have to fuel up...

fuck! 200k per tank is better than what i got riding my gn, i got 190 before reserve and my honda gets 140 before reserve [160-170 if i ride sensibly at the spped limit]

My 1200 Sporty does 'about' 20km per litre (56mpg the old way) - and that's up-and-down-dale, two-up and laden etc.

Never run it 'dry' but 190km+ between fill-ups is the norm.

Just like any other bike cruising at 'about' 110kmh two-up with gear etc???

Power? It tends to be a young person focus i.m.h.o. (or somebody suffering from 'withered-weenie syndrome') .

Effortless cruising with minimal gear-changing is where I'm at.

Thats quite enough work for most bikes, be a lot less fuel used without all the extras.

Ask your Dad about his economy - most Jap multis struggle to get near a H-D for economy (size-for-size) in my experience.

i know its over 220k per tank going at higher than harley cruising speeds and with me and our gear on the back but its a fucken four cylinder and even at 3krpm feels like its revving, and when it hits 8500 in 4th i tend to shit myself they can move

That's cause the FJ has torque, heaps of it... much like a Harley, cept the Harley has more of it in more useful places. Kinda like the same reason I'm moving to a twin next
