    I'm Back

    Well the holliday is over.

The butt is still sore though - got photos of my bruised butt if anyone interested.

So they wrote the Blackbird off. Only visible damage was plastics yet the quote to repair was $15,000.00

What to get now? Well me and the blackbird have unfinished business, but bugger ever buying a bike which costs that much just for plastic again.

So people help me out, what to get now?

The reality is the Blackbird was perfect for what I was doing. Excellent range, excellent power, good commuter, good handling, good value for money, reliable, not the best in any given situation, but bloody good at all.

I am thinking naked or bugger all plastic.
Maybe even a swap to the dark side and get a Suzuki
    SV1000
    TL1000
    or
    Speed triple (money permitting)
    Buell
    Hornet
    ????

So looking for lateish model bikes with low KM. Not want to go new as I stack on the Ks

Bugger about the Blackbird mate... sorry to hear it... but welcome back.

I'll pass on the pics of the black butt too - not a racist thing I'm just not that way inclined.

Good luck finding your new steed.

    glad you're back..
15 grand for new fairings!??!?!?!?! foooooooookin 'el..
Well, there are things like crash knobs (not crash nobs, like LB and WT), which could help for next time. But if you're off the BB for now, then I'd stick my mula on quite possibly an SV1000. Out of all those, that one would suit what I reckon you'd be after. TLs are aging on a bit, speed triples are nice, but not quite the same, sporty wise, Buell? Nice bikes, really nice, but I don't think it'd do. Hornet? nahh..

    anyway, so about these photos..

If you don't take a pillion, check the Speed Triple 1050. Otherwise Bandit, Fazer, GSX1400, any of the big nakeds really. But the faired ones, Bandit et al are best for touring.

Hey dude, your comment about not going new because of the k's is a bit strange to me. I would have thought that going new and getting the warranty would be the best option if you're going to do the k's. Being that most warranty's are 24 months unlimited mileage these days...

    Triumph Sprint ST?

You may find the SV1000 a little boring power wise after the bird, but with pipes they can be entertaining.
Speed triple would be awesome, but definately not pillion friendly.

Hornet would be excellent, allow an extra couple of grand for aftermarket shocks/exhausts/bars and maybe seat if you run into the same problems I did!

I take your point on the warranty thing, but you often see bikes around with real low km's. like the mid life crisis only lasted for a month or 2 but they held the bike for a couple of years in case it came back, or maybe they turned yellow or something.

I figure if I get a machine with low km that is a couple of years old I will sell it when the km's get to average.

Ok I don't have the benefit of a warranty, but I hopefully got it at a better price cause it a couple of years old anyway.

What problems did you have with the hornet? do tell, do tell.

If you liked the Blackbird why not get the naked version?

    So you're back.

That's good. I think. Or not.
It depends on where you've come back from, and how it was there, and how you felt about it.

What happened to the Blackybird? Did it fall down? (You've probably written a long and interesting story somewhere, but I didn't see it, and I can't be bothered trying to find it. I'm good like that. Lazy. Indolent. Insolent. Indigent. Incompetent. Infrequent. Inconsequent.)

Oh yeah - sorry to hear about your bum. I'd rather not. Please don't post pictures. But even so, I do sincerely hope it gets better.
    ... and that's what I think.

    Or summat.

    Or maybe not...

    Dunno really....

Well, from my point of view, having the warranty is worth the extra money. Maybe you could get one thats 6 months old and get the warranty transferred. Best of both worlds (Check with manufacturer about transferring warranty).

Didn't quite mean the hornet had problems, I mean spend money on a new seat if you've got a butt like mine :P I found because of the riding position I was right on my butt bones (sitting up). Either slightly flatter bars, so I had a tiny little more of a lean forward, or a new seat would have fixed the problem. Otherwise, I think the hornet is a great allrounder.

Yeah, that is a thought. Though it does have a more substantial fairing.
Which performs better, the VTR or SV?

SV. The VTR feels like a wet sponge after riding the SV. (and while i'm here, the hornet feels like it has more poke than both of them).

SV1000 naked was a close second choice to my trumpy. Would still have one anyday.
