KDX200 is the go for certain.
yeah I looked at a 04 RMZ250, it was 6500, but I had a look and HELLO front forks leak!
Now I have to save some money.....
dude!! get the KDX!!they are wicked bikes,
in the trail they are perfect, better than a MX bike, becuase the power is more useable. EG, i can ride in the bush waaay faster on my friends KDX200 than when im on my Dads YZF.
this is beacuse it is softer on long rides, and after 15min on hte Yzf you arse hands etc all hurt like hell.
Just my $00.2
now good luck on the seals![]()
and are 50 times as reliable and indestructable as my XR and any other xr for that matter......
man! So I pull my bike to bits to have a go at getting the clutch off, adn I find this behind teh primamry gear. Plus the crank seal was just sitting loose!!!
Now to go get a bigger socket to get that dam clutch off!!!
Here is teh seal.
It's kinda hard to see, but it's right behind the primary gear.
Should I do the mag crank seal at the same time??? It's a fucker trying to get the nut undone!

That bit of metal looks like the rocker thingy that is used to open the ex port timing valves , but yes I would be into that seal
To get the clutch centre nut off Used a long breaker bar
wedge a rag between the clutch gear teeth and the primary gear , put the bike it top gear ...( I also use a bit of wood and slide it through the wheel and under the swingarms
Spread the load sort of thing . then haul away ( make sure it isnt a left hand thread !! even then you willfeel it tighten )

Any bike needs maintenance esp a MX bike. The KDX will eventually need work, power valves etc seize on them (I had one).
Better this than some cruddy new breed 4 banger spiting it's titanium valves into the way of the piston.
Don't you look at my accountant.
He's the only one I've got.
Agreed there ! , I have just pulled an old Cr crank shaft assembly apart, and it looks like I can quite happily rebuild them at home , So that was the last hurdle in being completly self sufficient ( assuming the Rod kits are cheap!!)
So now I can completly renovate my CR engines which means I can spank that naughty throttles arse ...and if it goes bang....we can rebuilt it YEAH !!!!

Yeah she's not too flash, I got the primary gear off and what it looks like is the race has collapsed. The bits that hold the balls in place have all gone to shit and chewed out crank seal housing! FFS!! So I found a engine rebuild kit off eBay for under $200 which includes conrod, pin, piston rings all seals, all gaskets etc and I'll get the main bearings replaced, the big end done and hopefully I can get the seal housing machined out and press adn sleeve in. otherwise get a new housing (I really don't even want to ask the price on that though.......)
The entire housing isn't chewed out though, so I wonder if I can get something like kneed-it (that metal epoxy stuff??) and fill the grooves?? so you think a sleeve would work? I don't know how well that stuff works under heat.....
So gutted....
Anyway after all of this, I may as well keep the thing for a while now. Not much else can really go wrong (I rfreaking hope!!!). I've stripped most of teh enigine down and I'll get a shop to split the crank and check out the rest.
Bah!
If the bearing housing is still good enough to locate the bearing (ie it's scored, but the bearing and seal still fit in in the correct place) then you can repair it with some called JBWeld. It's often listed on Trademe or there's a NZ agent. It's good stuff.

I'm taking it to the guys at spectrum and they are going to split the crank for me and get into it. It's just a bit too much for me.
I'm thinking about doing the bearings insde the gearbox at the same time. In particular the drive gear (the sprocket one??) and it probably would be a good idea to swap out the waterpump seals etc.
Also the clutch sticking, a guy told me to file out the grooves, is this a good idea?
Anythign else I should do? I may as well keep the bloody thing for a while now. I've spent too much on it!!
Yes to all, also check the water pump shaft for wear and the kick start ratchet mech for wear ...replace now while its apartOriginally Posted by cheese
