I think that if you don't wear gear you're an idiot.

I mean you say it's only the person getting hurt, but how about their friends, their family seeing them all injured or dead as they wern't wearing any gears.

I was biking to work on my pushbike once, wasn't wearing any leathers or anything just a pushie helmet, and I came off, got a big fucking graze on my arm took about a month to heal and was really sore, I'd hate to imagine what it would be like without any gear on at speed so I wear gear all the time, even if it is bloody hot.

I ALWAYS wear jacket, gloves, helmet and boots, but I occasionally have worn jeans before I got my cordura pants, but I feel naked without them.

So fuck 'em even if it is a hot day I'd rather be sweaty than without skin!

If your're scared of being hurt, don't ride dangerous silly things like motorcycles. Stick to nice safe cars. Alternatively, don't fall off. I've found not falling off works surprisingly well.

I can hear the MPs now "Wellllll, we've been asked to pass laws to make motorcyclists wear all this protective clothing. But, really, if motorcycles are that dabgerous , should they be allowed at all? I think not"

No amount of magic gear will guarantee you won't be hurt or killed if you crash. Don't crash. Simple answer.

It never ceases to amaze me how many post these threads up.

They made the choice. They have to deal with it.
The world will look up and shout "Save Us!", and I'll whisper "no"

Oh, if only this were true.

They have nothing to deal with themselves, other than a bit of pain, mutilation and discomfort.

They have several taxpayer-funded options awaiting them:
    • Free ambulance and skilled paramedic care to A&E.
    • A&E cover provided by the appropriate District Health Board.
    • Plastic surgery and orthopedic care funded by ACC.
    • Physiotherapy and other rehabilitative services funded by ACC.
    • Paid time off work, courtesy of ACC (and their beloved employer).

Additionally, they help promote a view of bikers as Ferkin Idiots.

Oh fuck it. I'm wasting my time. Let them do what they bloody-well like. After all, it's their life (Insert Tui poster here)

Arrow Anal retentitiveness, its a biarch.

You know, I was thinking. All this palooha over wearing gear or not, those who believe that there should be gear worn all the time, I have a question for you. Safety, if your so worried about the safety of others, then why just not just encourage everyone to give up riding altogether??? In fact, why not ban all sports/activities because they could be potientially dangerous?
It never amazes me how much others will harp on about others...:eyepoke:
This topic comes up on a regular basis and like someone else said, its their life, get over it. Would be a shyte world if all those who have an opinion could impose it on everyone else. Is it just me or is the heat frying some peoples' brains? Get on with life, we only have one and its a waste of it to worry about everyone else.
Oh and for the record, I've had my share of wipeouts. I do wear gear, draggins, jacket, boots, gloves & lid are my minimium and I have more than that on the sprotbike.

Those who insist on perfect safety, don't have the balls to live in the real world.

Anal retentiveness indeed! If these Ferkin Idiots bore the full consequences of their stupidity, I would agree with you fully.

    They don't. The taxpayer does.

Therefore I disagree with you fully.

Yes, they have a right to choose to be dickheads in the same vein as people who don't wear seatbelts in cars, or those who allow unrestrained children to roam around inside moving vehicles. That doesn't make what they do "right", either for themselves or for others.

Not all accidents are avoidable by the victim tho, if your sitting at the lights and some git rear ends you, what where you sposed to do? No up button on my bike!
    Why are helmets compulsory?
Maybe it should be voluntary like the rest of the gear?
Might end up with a higher road toll but unemployment would drop!
Its all good to say “Let those who ride decide” But it’s us who foot the bill when others cant be assed caus its too hot, not far enough, don’t want to…
Cars are dangerous too, and we have seatbelts, airbags and other safety aspects built in. On bikes we have to use our initiative, you would think that people would give themselves the best chance at survival, I guess the “She’ll be right mate” attitude hasn’t been killed off yet.
We all have our little obsessions...

    Easy fix.....
Wearing of gear other than helmet is optional.
In the event of injury-accident, the injured party is charged on a sliding scale dependent on the gear they are wearing (or not).
ie Helmet only (you know what I mean) - they pay 100% of treatment and ongoing etc
Full gear - taxpayer picks up the tab.
With pants, jacket & proper boots making up a reasonable safety gear collection, that means cost can be allocated in 1/3 amounts of total.
*Edit* Damn - how to factor in gloves???
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

Saw a funny thing the other day a bloke on a sportsbike wearing a nice dianise jacket (looked like the top half of a 2 piece), nice gloves, boots and...... shorts..!
Ever notice how you often see some riders, the ones that wear skimpy skull cap type open face helmets (or often Wafen SS helmets) and real big heavy, steel impregnated boots. Gets me thinking about what they are worried about protecting..Thier Heads or thier Feet?

Whats that guys name now...ummm..errr..., Darwin, thats right Charles Darwin.

I wonder how many of the armour nazis go out and do wheelies or stoppies or hang off on corners or split lanes at 50kmh more than the traffic - stuff I see every week.

There are a heap of things done by motorcyclists that piss off the general public a helluva lot more than a guy wearing shorts for Christ's sake.

I know there is a chance you are going to can off any time you go out - but if you ride like a boy racer on two wheels - and that is what the public see when you blat past - then just wearing armour and leather isn't going to necessarily save.

I have had one serious bin, car u-turned and I missed him with everything but ny knee - armour, if it had existed then, might have stopped my leg being split up the middle, but it wouldn't have stopped the serious part which was separating at the knee and ending up on the seat behind.

Wearing gear doesn't make you bulletproof - it justs make you FEEL bulletproof and that is the real danger in my mind.

Ah, but what would I know, I'm just an old fart (who still loves bikes)

Wear what you like, but don't use ACC and public opinion to tell others what they should wear.

    Rant over, ride safe
