    Fantastic (Wellington) morning commute

I'm sure that all the Wellington KB'ers will be aware of the snarl up on SH2 out to the Hutt this morning. I came down the Gorge from Newlands, saw the queue, and decided that it was all the excuse I needed to head back and go over the Haywards to the Hutt.

What a great ride. Here's what I found:

    1. The Puautahanui Inlet is stunning on a fine day

    2. A 500 twin is more than capable of dealing with any traffic you're likely to come across

    3. The bike feels so much better after I'd been over all the engine mounts, footpeg mounts, etc, etc

    4. My Hagon rear shock is great

    5. The GS handles beautifully on the BT45s, but I'd like a bit better braking (braided hoses might be next on the list)

    6. I need to harden up. After an hour or so (on the bike) my bum was a wee bit sore, and even after a year commuting my hands were still a bit stiff after my accident.

Now I'm stuck behind the PC. Can't wait to do it all again.

Yeah. I filtered my way to the Hutt Valley giggling the whole way. Had to stop and ring my flatmate and ask her how HER commute was going. She apparently sat at the front of the queue at the Ngauranga lights for about 15 cycles before deciding to have coffee in town instead of eastbourne .

Condolences to anyone who got hurt in the accident if that indeed was a factor.

I find that road friggin scary. Bloody narrow. Coming back to Karori going up through the twisties is pretty good though.

Damn that queue down Newlands Road this morning was a bitch. I decided to leap frog overtake to get to work on time. One thing I have to watch is my mirrors stick out a long way when going between cars.

I used to live in South Karori, and yep, Makara road rocks!
If you like that one, then you will surely like the Akatarawas (Upper Hutt to Waikanae), I have ridden that road over 200 times on bikes from RG250's to Tricked Out Gsxr's, loads of fun! (if you have not tried it already)

Glad you enjoyed the ride. i made the mistake of bringing the cage in, much to my regret.

Still better than Auckland on a good day though!

Yeah, I was pretty pissed at that traffic... had to drop down to 50-60k for half the way. Felt like being stuck in a car.

Oh, no, wait... if I'd parked up and tore my hair out for half an hour THEN I would have felt like I was in a car.

Yep that Makara road is fun although narrow. I'm in Churton Park and it is fun on a nice morning to take the Makara route to town, i particularly enjoy the road up the hill at the Karori end.
Why would anyone choose to drive a car!
