Registering a Bike

Ok I have a new bike, but am after something to use for wheelie practice.

Now I figure an off road/Adventure/motard type bike is the go, but I want it road legal.

So, I have identified a likely candidate, which has all the bits for road, but has never been registered. Can someone tell me what is the process and the cost to now get the bike on the road

where in auck are you?? go to the AA (by the big testing station there) place off porana?? road in the wairau valley and he can tell you wether it can be or not, depends wether the bike is in the system or not, otherwise no go
