Boring? have you tested one? give it a go, i haven't tried an SV but i have tried the TLS and R and even though it's not quite as fast the VTR is more fun, you shouldn't count it out just because it's a Honda or "no-one" in the UK rides them

    I'm confused...
isn't the buell Ulysses and the SV, two completely and utterly different bikes.

How could they even compare? I know which i'd prefer ...but thats just me

why not buy a SV1000 (the non faired one?) the bars are higher and the pegs fruther forward? theres a real good one on Tardme for $9000 at present with decent mufflers. I have a little GIVI clip on fairing I could sell you for cheap. Its silver so you'd need to paint it.

I think Suzuki stopped producing the naked SV (possibly after the first year of production) - didn't sell well I guess. I've been keeping an eye out for them on Trademe, but haven't seen anything in the last 3 months! I might just streetfighter a TL1000S instead!

Isn't it about time this was settled once and for all.

Can we please have a couple of punters one with an SV and one with a VTR and get it sorted please so all the bulls#*t can stop.

I have the 05 Suzuki..in red....love it..lots of power, nice sound from standard pipes....slipper clutch is real good....say on Coro Loop you can change down to 1st for the 25k bends with no problems. No slipper clutch on Firestorm....makes all down changes at speed real easy....nice tall 1st gear too.

Firestorm is heavier and less power.

Handling...I needed to increase pre-load back and front amd much better but $300 at Coleman's will really sort....when I can afford it......can twitch a little when braking from speed and changing down but could just be e effects of the V Twin lump....this is my first V Twin.

More expensive than Firestorm....in UK RRP is cheaper...wired eh?

Rear brake a bit poofy and sometimes bites wen least expected.

Guess there are no bad 1000cc sports bikes these days and I have not ridden the Honda........looks/spec wise I think te SV wins.....especially in red...

so you haven't ridden the Honda, guess you cant really compare bike to bike huh?

Dangerous is the only one I know who has ridden both (.....I think... given that both have lived in his garage, its prob a good guess)

i have sat on both preferred the VTR

You can't just look at a spec sheet and say less power.
Does it have less horsepower? or less torque?

Horsepower = (Torque * RPM) /5252 so the horsepower figure is more easily skewed by the addition of RPM i.e it is way easier to add 1,000 rpm to a motor than 1,000ft/lb of torque. Give me a 100ft/lb of torque over a 1,000 rpm any day.

Not only that at what point is the torque delivered.
The X11 engine is a retuned Blackbird engine.
    Look at the specs.
    Blackbird-11500 RPM, 112n/m of torque, 165 HP
    X11-10,500 RPM, 116n/m of torque, 130 HP

The key difference is the torque delivery. The torque on the Blackbird only really starts to kick in at around 6,000 and pulls to 10,500 rpm.

On the X11 it kicks in at 3,000k rpm and pulls to 9,500 rpm.

Seat of the pants, the X11 will out accellerate the Blackbird and have no problem taking it in a roll on. The Blackbird will out top end the X11, but who wants to over 250kmh on a naked bike anyway?

So just because the spec sheet says one has more horsepower or one has more torque don't mean it is going to go quicker. And we haven't even started on handling.

    Geeze, after 8 months of being a monk I had sex last night and I cannot handle all this tech stuff.....but checked specs and;

    Suzuki
    120ps
    102nm at 7,200 rpm

    Honda
    105ps
    93nm at 7,000 rpm

    Does this help?

According to my seatofthepantsometer, specs mean shit, my poor heavy under powerd VTR kept up with a TLR around puke and he had 135hp+, he had a little on me over 200k's but someone has played with my suspension and mine handled better, my recomendation is ride them to decide.

Does anyone have a slightly worked SV (cans, brakes?) for me to try to resolve the debate?

    What a load of...

What's to compare here? I've ridden both and i prefer the SV. But i doubt i could've lost the VTR until 200+km/h and he couldn't have lost me when we were both really punting it on decent scratch roads.

If you wanna argue performance and are that worried go get a zx10/gxxr/r1/blade and stop worrying about anything else if you're that good a rider.

It's all personal preference. Decide for yourself.

I know, I was just responding to a post and thought it would be interesting to know...
