Help me decide whether or not to use vinyl to fix the rear of my bike

    crashe click here quickly!

phew. ok so the rear of my bike needs some plastic welding and either a respray or a vinyl cover.

painting im still looking at around $220 for from reflections, and since they were the people to do it originally its probably better to do it through them if I choose to paint it.

I dont know how much for the vinyl but I would imagine significantly cheaper.

If I exclude cost from the process then it just comes down to 'does it actually look cooler with the vinyl cover?'

attached is a pic of the original, the damage and what it would sorta look like with the vinyl.

Red looks best. Can you get a match in vinyl??
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

I dont think I'd want to have a red vinyl cover on the back. it would look like im just trying to cover it up since it wouldnt be the same shade etc etc.

its either black vinyl or resprayed.

the look im going for with the vinyl is like this

I just paintined mine, but it involved vinyl removing. Painting is the easiest way, but vinyl looks better.

Now, 'that' looks reasonable. You talking leatherette or self-adhesive signwriting vinyl??
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

Pyro, in my opinion it will look shithouse with vinyl. Get it back to how it was originally mate.
Either that or the editing of your photo in paint shop is a shocker.
I know its shocking. I think I deliberately did a piss-poor job subliminally because I dont think I want to vinyl it.

nothing wrong with paint shop pro, photoshop is for conformist sissies

If you're gonna make the back bit black, make sure it starts at the seat. See in your photochopped pic, you've a black seat with the vinyl starting halfway along. Not so pretty. Make more of the back black, so that the seat doesn't look like a pimple on your butt. Either that or get the seat recovered half red, half black

Pyro- depends upon: how long you plan to keep the bike fore; whether or not you reckon, realistically, that you'll crash again.

ive decided to go with a respray. the bike had a new paint job when I bought it. (what 6 months ago now?) which was hella expensive.

    sigh. money

for those who dont know, for a 2fiddy it was quite expensive so its worth it I guess. specially for resale value.

thanks for the thoughts though Gareth,
oh and kb'r at reflections. sorry, even though I asked again, I forgot as soon as I got on the road.

all good cam, if you decide that you want to get it done just get in touch. My mates dad does screenwriting for a job and can have ANYTHING made up for you from a picture. They've done a few replica race bikes (old school lookalikes) and the guys know their stuff.

It's better to not pass and know that you could have than to pass and find out that you can't. Wait for the straight.
