    Census 2006

Yet again, motorbikes are specifically excluded from the only transportation question in the Dwelling form for this years Census.

Yet again, I am pissed off about this. I have just formulated a rather polite question asking their reasoning for this exclusion, in view of the fact that both members of this household hold full motorcycle licences & own both a 4-wheeled conveyance AND a motorcycle, and all 4 vehicles are fully registered & warranted all year & all 4 vehicles are regularly used.

The only way to get motorcycle mentioned on your Census form is to ride it to work on the 7th of March so you can answer the transportation work in your personal Census form.

    Again.

    Just like last year.

    And the year before that.

Probably because one of the project managers on the census project has a mashed face because he fell off without a helmet.
    Motorbike only search

Just say you did, whether you did or not.
The views expressed above may not match yours - But that's the reason my Dad went to war - wasn't it?

And the reply from the Census office:

"The main reason that motorbikes and scooters are not counted is a reflection of the use of the final data. "

As I'm crap at writing can I have a copy of yours? I can't see the point they're trying to make.
EDIT see you got a reply... still doesn't make sense to me. Do they want to know how many cars are parked per house? For the purpose of... what? - street parking requirements?

7 bikes and 1 van - only the van will show up on the census if there is a storm on 7 March...

    Where? Can't see it.

I have queried Statistics NZ thus: "What is the use (and purpose) of the final data if motorbikes are excluded?"

See if anything more enlightening comes back.

My understanding (I welcome correction) is, no, officially we still do not.You will not be offered "Kiwi" or "New Zealander" as a choice. But if you INSIST on existing and tick "Other" and write in "Kiwi" or "New Zealander" they will reluctantly count you as , firstly, European, and, secondly , whatever you wrote in. Causing statisticians to bleat because the percentages will no longer add up to 100, but, as the Dept of Stats pointed out, the "spurious" Kiwi and New Zealander classifications can simply be ignored, which then makes the results the same as last time ! Which is why I so hate bureaucrats.
