Hit and Run in Howick area

Well folks I was involved in a Hit and Run today.

This is all a bit blurry as it happened so quickly and I never any good at explaining things at the best of times. Anyways here goes.
Was going around a round about between Union road and Paparoa road in Howick this evening and a car came straight along around a round about and crashed into the back of my bike side on. Managed to keep the bike upright thank god and stopped.
The other car stopped for a few seconds, I think he looked at his own car for damage (The car must have a broken head light for sure from what was at the crash site) got back in his car and took off. The driver could clearly see that I had sopped on the opposite side of the round about. The witness of the crash stopped as asked me if I was ok and he suggested he try and catch the guy who took off. He tried to catch him but lost him somewhere around point view drive. He came back afterwards and testified to the police on the phone. The witness couldn’t have been more helpful even if he tried and thankfully someone stopped who saw it all
The car was a Wormald company car. My uncle rang the company after speaking to the police in which they suggested to ring them. Wormald’s hung up on him 3 times to make things worse and they where rude on the phone, Great huh? (This was there after hour’s service).
Anyway about the damage to the bike and me…..
I was rather luckily to say the least and only ended up with a light scratch no worse than my darn cat can do on occasions and my foot is a little saw. How I didn’t break my foot I don’t know as my boot soul has been ripped open and they will need replacing. Few marks on my bike pants but I think they will live another few km’s yet.
    As for the bike…… well……
-Swing arm on the left hand side (top half) is all bent and is just touching the frame.
-Back left hand fairing is cracked and scratched.
-Plastic thingy next to where your foot goes is all broken. Mount in the frame which holds this on is broken off
-Cover that goes over the chain on the back sprocket is cracked where it gets held on and has gauge marks where the chain and it got impact.
-Gear leaver is slightly out of kilter.

Riding it home was interesting with mum behind, with the chain and the chain cover touching making one hell of a racket.

Anyway going to get my uncle to ring the insurance company and Wormalds and see what comes of that. He has been in that sort of area so he knows what next.
Hope we can manage to hunt this person down otherwise im in for a large $700 excess fee and no claims…. Bike is insured for Full and $7000
Pity I couldn’t take any photos but dad has the camera on the boat in the barrier fishing.

Well today could have been a lot better and could have been a lot worse……..

Good to hear your ok dude. What a bastard to hit a biker and then take off. You could have been alot worse off. Keep on at the police too, they might be interested in making some money out of this one in fines for the prick. Will teach him a lesson to.

Well, lets see whether he reports it to the police within 24 hours. And what they do if he does. Or doesn't. Leaving the scene of an accident should be a good start. An injury accident, too.

DO NOT fial to make sure you lodge an ACC claim. Not for anything you'll get (which will be nothing) but because it establishes the matter. Just go into any ACC office and ask for a claim form.

Did you (or the witmess) get his rego? If you did, he's toast.

EDIT: Think my foot should be fine so shouldn’t need to claim.

Bro if your bike is insured for $7k it would've been ideal if he'd written it off (and you weren't hurt, ofcourse), and you'd got his plate. Then you woulda been on the right side of the ledger. Coulda bought yourself a new two fiddy, a case of cigars, and lit them with the rest of the money (though I'm not sure if this new plastic stuff burns?)

Seriously though, I hope that you can find someone reasonable to deal with. I'd be trying to find as many Wormald cars as you can (have they got a depot?) and getting a pic of the one with the broken headlight.

Next time make sure you get the plate. I got rear-ended by a chick who fucked off on me, got her plate and hit her up the next day. She went white when she saw us, and without any threats at all (we were all smiles), she fessed up.

Jeez mate, hope you nail the bastard good. Keep an eye out for damaged Wormald vehicles then?? Perhaps... encourage them to come clean

    Bummer dude.

Crashes always suck, and they almost always come out of nowhere and happen in a split second. Good to hear you made it, and good luck catching the twat.
And you run and you run to catch up with the sun, but it's sinking. Racing around to come up behind you again.
