yank tank at Glenorchy 2006 rally
Hope there recovery is fast.
You can't fight sleep.. if you feel tired, stop and rest!
Nope - they flew home yesterday, 5 dead bikes some under very odd circumstances ie NOT the bikes fault and one because the rider left the road in an unplanned and violent fashion. The Milford rd actually and was feckin lucky someone saw him do so.... Or he might still be there!Originally Posted by riffer

Not good news when you hear about riders down
Hope they come right quickly.
Nice part of the world for riding but remote for assistance..Good luck to all involved.
If you love it, let it go. If it comes back to you, you've just high-sided!

Telling tales out of camp is not on, especially since I only have secondhand opinions on the failures. Lets just say a fair percentage were most likely due to overexcited owners omitting a few vital steps in the simple maintenance schedule.... others were just plain bad luck that happens to any vehicle.Originally Posted by SpeedMedic

Knowing just how many old bikes there were (and some of them had that 'used hard and put away wet look), it's amazing that so many made it with NO troubles at all.... The gentleman I was helping with a dead gennie at teAnau.. Turned out to be a faulty regulator, brand new one couriered overnight and back on the road the next day. Not bad for a 30 year old bike ridden 2 up with full camping kit! Hardest part was deciding if it was the gennie or the regulator as most workshops would have little experience with DC systems these days. Their biggest day was Nugget Point to Westport via Arthurs Pass and Greymouth...
Easy way to test a DC dynamo is disconnect its drive, connect it direct to battery and see if it runs as a motor.Originally Posted by Paul in NZ
